Default Serbian AK-47...

My gun dealer recently indicated that the 'Serbian AK-47 double stack' was a top end AK. Any opinions (you know what they say about opinions) out there? Need a new AK, says he's got a Polish one too...

Factory built "yugo" or "serbian": AK,whats not to like?
I would get one, trade out that funky stockset for a yugo BFPU set and change out the top cover and be done.

The 'Serbian' is $800 brand new out of the box. Very nice wooden stock, looks like maple (probably not but that's what it looks like). Really good fit and finish, makes my old IO look like junk. Way better than a WASR, not that I have anything against WARSs.

The Polish one has a milled receiver, so I didn't even ask. I prefer the stamped as its about two pounds lighter.

$800 seems steep. For just another $100-200 buy an Arsenal AK.

Wow, and I was thinking $800 was top end. Just want, "The last AK-47 I'd ever want to buy" I guess you can go as nice ($$$) as you want! Gun show this weekend, will troll Sunday afternoon...

800 seem to be around the norm, this is a bad year to buy.(election year)I did see the same yugo or serbian AK at my dealer for 700.You know most believe the Zastava AK's rival Russian quality.

I went back and took a close second look at it. It has really high quality, and the feel is amazing. It features some upgrades to the standard WASR type, i.e. it's all brand new parts including the barrel, the barrel is not chromed so it is more accurate and the stamped receiver is thicker than standard to stiffen the rifle and reduce flexing. What gets me is I've only got $700... gurrr. I really don't want to part with my 870, but still I hate to miss this chance.

For $200 more you can get into a VEPR AK.

Thank you for the link... looks nice!

What is the appeal to you for the 5.45? Is it a Ryuski knock off in .223? What are the advantages in cost, reliability and durability?

The real reasons I'm getting another AK-47 is moderate cost of ammo (read STOCKPILE), dead reliability and legendary durability.

I'm in love with Ms. Zastava Yugo, even the name is dead sexy... when she comes into my hands I'll name her 'Zesty'.

Thanks. Ammo is cheaper? Good to know. Still, I really like the knock down of the 7.62. Am thinking of saving up the pennies to get my wife a AK-74, less recoil and we'd be on the same type of system (she's a great shot but hates recoil)

BTW, the Serbian/Yugo stocks are made of Teak, no wounder I didn't recognize the type of wood.

I would pull the 700 cash out and tell the man thats what you have and see what he says.
Worse case is no.second is he lets you put 700 down and go back in a week or two with another 100.

Talking Gun show...

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. There's a gun show in town this weekend, so I'll have a good chance to do some comparative shopping. And on Sunday afternoon they come way down on prices, then I'll know how to go forward. I'm really sold on getting a Serbian M70 Zastava. I will have a high quality AK before Tuesday! Hard to wait though...

OK, the gun show was a bust. Nothing but junk on the tables. I couldn't even find a decent .357 snubby for my wife. Anyway, here's the one I had my eye on...

Wow, dude. Check that! It's nice to see another Zastava for comparison. Very cool. Did you do the carving?

Ya gotta love the AK culture, quite different from the AR culture. Here's my happy trio... not completely cheap, but very good. I want for nothing.

It was imported here as a parts kit.The trench art was more than likely done by a Serbian fighter back in the 1990s after Yugoslavia broke up.
There's more info on the crest here....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Serbia
