Hello everyone,
I am about to purchase the katadyn pocket endurance microfilter.(The 330 dollar one) I was wondering if anyone here had anything bad to say about it.... I love the ceramic/silver impregnated easy to clean filter, as well as the rugged construction. I also love the fact that the filter is rated for 13,000 gallons!!!!!!! The price is a little steep, but I was just curious if you all thought the highest priced katadyn was well worth it... I have a berkey for home use, I am just looking for something to go in the bugout bag that is smaller, but yet will last a lifetime and has a huge capacity like the 13,000 gallon katadyn..... Basically I want a never ending water supply if I had to bug out, and of everything I have looked at (not letting price matter) the katadyn pocket microfilter for 330ish dollars looks like just about the best thing money can buy........ Please give me your opinion's on the katadyn!!!! |

I've got one and am very pleased with it. I too bought it for the long filter life.
There is/was a group buy going on in the "For Sale" forum...$269. You may check it out. http://www.survivalistboards.com/sho...d.php?t=218062 |

I have one and not a bad thing to say about it. (wish it was lighter / smaller but then it'd also take longer to pump water)

This place has it for $369, but they give you a promo for $100 off. So you pay $269.

if your going to spend around $300 on water filter i would get 2 of these for backpacking http://www.highwaterfilters.com/SP18...em-p/sp184.htm and i would get this one with the rest of your cash (or 4 of these and one of those for backpacking) http://www.echobooks.org/ProductDeta...oductCode=2936 Best BANG! for the buck sidenote: I beleive that the saywers filter is a better filter anyway |

I have tried many many filters. Including Pocket and Sawyers.
I like each for different reasons. The downsides to the Pocket filter is the weight and pumping. Pumping a LOT of water gets tedious. For a few gallons a day, I would certainly go with the Sawyer. The best thing about the katadyn is that it is ROBUST. I mean ROBUST. The housing feels almost impenetrable. But keep in mind that the filter element is very fragile. It is proven and time-tested. Sawyers have their place also. They are inexpensive and can filter a lot of water also. Some models even do viruses (which the pocket filter does not filter). The downside is that it is not time-tested yet and there is not really a good way to ensure that the filter element is damaged or not. You can not open it up. |

Make sure you use a coffee filter No.4 in front of the pocket pre-filter.
You will: - extend the life of the filter unit - less cleaning of the filter unit Use micropur forte against viruses in the water and for storage. |

I have been looking at the Katadyn Pocket model too, and there are some on ebay for less than $269 and offer free shipping. Are there different (lesser grades) of the Pocket model?
I am leerie of buying off ebay, but I am also all about saving a buck. |

ebay has some excellent prices on the Pocket. I don't know how they do it. Katadyn doesn't allow resellers to sell below the list price, except for periodic 2 week sales. So the ebay sellers may be getting their stock from a distributor, who marks up from the wholesale price. So the ebay sellers must not make very much off each sale. Free shipping is an extra bonus (I offer this on the Pocket as well). Be careful as to how long delivery will take. Sometimes companies use drop ship methods that can take days or even weeks longer than normal. |

Thanks for the reply.
Water treatment is where I have been lacking in my prepping, and I alieviated that yesterday. I bought a Katadyn Pocket (nib) for $250 shipped, a MyBottle microfilter for $47.54, and 60 Micropur tablets for $22 shipped. My plan is to carry these items in my daily carry GHB, and my intention is to get a Big Berkey or the like for my house. ![]() |

Carrying that thing on a daily basis?
Neverever- if you feel the need to do that go with the Mini. Same filter as the pocket, but a lot less weight, more compact. I keep the Pocket in the bagpack. The Mini stays with me- always. |

I can't post links to my website on this forum, but I have a big sale going on this weekend only on all Katadyn products. Savings are significant. |
