Learning from your parents

What people call prepping now is a way of life for my parents.
My dad still has a garden every year and my mother cans and freezes what they dont eat.
They enjoy fishing and the freeze that to.
My father is getting older and isnt able to hunt like he used to but if we kill a deer we take it to my dad and we process it and share the meat.(im pretty much his 'helper' lol)
My dad has a water collection system going to a storage tank he waters his garden with to save money on his water bill.
Its not like they cant afford to buy all thier groceries or water their garden with city water. They choose to save where they can and live a frugal life so when they do want to make a big purchase they go pay cash for it.
I remember thinking and asking them why they do things the hard way , not understanding that they were living healthier and saving money this way.
I can only hope to have a home set up as well as thiers soon.
I did things the easy way for years before i realized easy isnt always the best.

well, Dad did teach me how to make home made brandy and wiskey.
Shhot and hunt of course................work with my hands.
His favorite saying was this,
"If some one else is smart enough to invent it, you can probably fix it"
