Default Ruger mini 14 price?

Advertise Here

What happened with the prices? I bought one back in 2000 or so for about 350. I traded it soon after for a really nice shotgun, but out of curiosity I looked at one in a gun shop the other day and the asking price was 850. Huh? A 243 percent in price?
Any idea why the price went up so much? Was the guy just asking an unreasonable price?

New basic Mini Ranch has run ~$625 and up for years.

Used prices come and go, depending on model. Most folks don't want the pre 580 series anymore if they know anything about them, so the old model ones have generally fallen in price.

The only one that might be around $850 best price new these days is the Target model, but of course any given gun store may price it for whatever they think traffic might bear.

First thing is your talking 12 years ago you paid 350$ for a mini. Everything has gone up since then.

And second its a supply and demand thing. In some cases there are shortages, while demand is increasing. You 'want' a mini 14, the store has 1 and will probably know about Ruger stopping new orders to try and catch up. So they can charge a premium knowing you can't just go order one somewhere else, and might not find one in a rack elsewhere.

If you have a look at the Ruger site, suggested retail for the most basic model is $881. With things the way they are we may have to start getting used to actually paying the MSRP on stuff. I went looking for some 8mm brass to reload, except the places I checked didn't have any in stock, okay 30-06 you can form it from that, again out of stock back order. The reasonably smart guy who does have some will raise his prices knowing everybody is out.

If you pay that much for a Mini you haven't looked around very much.

$579 - (see page 43)

I wasn't really planning on buying one, was just somewhat shocked by the price....for instance the cost of a Remington 870, or for that matter Ruger handguns hasn't gone up that much.
They are fun little carbines though, and if I came across one when I had money burning a hole in my pocket I wouldn't mind having one again.

850 is way too much even for a new mini imo.

The trick is to find the one or two decent shops in your area that deal in enough volume that their prices are reasonable. In Cincinnati area I know at least 2 shops where I could get a mini14 ordered in new for mid 600's
