Default Made a Bola!

Advertise Here

(Pics to follow.)

Made a couple bola's today for fun.
First one with spectra-cord and 3 small socks stuffed with rocks. Worked okay.
Second one I used #2 and #3 fishing weights and spectra. About arms length and 3 weights.

The first one was good for rabbits and barely but in a pinch it took 5 minutes and could be made with socks and shoelaces.

The second one was nice! Arms length but opens to double that. Throws 15-20 feet well, still working on accuracy but I can walk that close to deer in my yard daily. Thrown at a pair of upright shovels it wrapped both handles and pulled them from the ground entangled (though honestly about 1/6 attempts but hey, it's my first day.)

Don't expect much, still have to chase down the animal. But two people in the woods with shoelace bolas and knives have a FAR better chance than with thrown stick or other simple improvised tools.

Next, bird bola.

Cool! I love interesting weapons. Please do post pics or video. I can imagine it takes a bit of practice but many things do.

I made this recently. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet. 1" steel ball bearings in monkey fists with 2 pieces about 3 feet long of 550 cord per ball. Then I just did simple overhand knots along the length of the cord to give it some stiffness and prevent it from twisting too much. To finish it up I did a loop for a handle. Overall took me about an hour. Kinda over built it but thats just how I do things.

Good to see other primitive weapons being made and used, I have 1 I practice with,; rope and tennis balls. ( just in case of a mishap) plus my dog retrieves it for me. Same as my sling, if I can't get to the water practiced in the backyard with tennis balls, (kills 2 birds with 1 stone.) My dog really loves to play fetch.

Thats a really nice bola. I should make myself one.

I made plenty when I was a kid, mostly out of paracord innards & some logging chain for weight. Worked good enough

Think I will make one like the one in the pic for a wallhanger, I really like that.
