Don't get me wrong, I really like Dave. I have had a few rather interesting phone calls with him years ago, back before the Dual Survivor stuff, when he was just a youtuber doing videos for kicks and to promote his Archery business.

I think he's got a great perspective towards outdoor wilderness skills and I have learned a lot about traditional archery, especially when I was first getting into it...but the man took a hunting knife and sliced his own arm open...so he could burn it shut with gun powder. Maybe you prefer Bear Grylls' version where he uses a nail clipper to remove a small thorn that kind of pierced through his pants and made a little scratch on his thighs, barely bleeding at all?

Dave was probably doing that in a controlled environment with a medical crew not too far. Anyways, such a cut doesn't do much damage aside from a nice scar.

When I was trained as a first respondent, we needed to make ourselves then others bleed a little using an X-acto knife to make sure we could withstand the sight of our own blood and the blood of others. It also allowed us to feel how it is to work under stress with a wound, which is something you don't want to practice or improvise on site during a real intervention.

I still have the scars, and the knowledge that goes along.

Kind of reminds me though of the Clint Eastwood movie where he is shot with an arrow. He cut a groove in the arrow, filled it with black powder, lit it and then had someone drive the arrow through his body.

Now, If ole Davey pulled that off, he would be INSANE!

no doubt the producer's idea. I did see the ep and Cody was very worried about it and kept an eye on the wound for infection.

the ep could have been done without the stunt and was simply for shock value.

I watched it again, and it really looks real to me. I don't think Hollywood can zoom in that close and get all of the muscle movements and a live appearance like that.

You can fake his facial expressions, and he can be tense and all, and shake like he's hurt, but the muscle movement itself, I doubt they can duplicate that.

i like dave even though he told a few white lies like stating that he was ranger qualified which usually means you went to ranger school and actually earned,qualified,graduated and awarded and officialy allowed to wear the ranger tab on your uniform. the cutting and cauterization he performed on himself was a lot easier than going thru ranger school.

hes not exactly a fraud... i was watching his youtube videos long before "dual survival" was ever a show, ive learned alot from him and i believe he is the closest your going to get the real deal. sure all the tv shows have added crap for entertainment so take it with a grain of salt but overall dave is one fo the better ones.

i mean if your mr gryles you always take the high road, as in over a rock face rather then following the road lol

At least the hippie didn't repeatedly embellish his military record to promote his survival classes and products. Dave's got some great vids and good info but he really needs to come clean and apologize for misleading people.

IMO he was just showboating again. Just like when he decided to raid the killer bees nest for the honey. Just like when he ran around the island in the dark with the torch. Just like when he went blindly into the cave system without a light. Pretty much what he does every episode.

I like the show, but yeah, he's a fraud. I knew a guy that was a green beret in Nam, and he was more resourceful than dave is. The stunt was just for ratings anyway, and it probably could've been faked. It's not hard to fake something like that. The whole show is staged in the first place just to show us what to do in a survival situation. Don't put your faith in television, go out and try it all yourself. That's what I do.

Yeah one instance of his fraud is his machete mod. Yeah look it up and then go the Colhane's/Picts channel and compare the dates. Dave Canterbury likes you to think he's the real deal when he copies everything and leaves you with the impression that it is original Dave Canterbury. Another case is his spider shelter or some crap like that. Basically its is debris shelter that he named spider shelter.............Why? it gives him intellectual rights to it.

I have nothing against anyone making a living at what they like. But DC doesn't give credit where credit is due. And is barefoot idiot of a partner isn't any better as his Super Shelter which he takes credit for is a Mors Kochanski invention and Mors will more or less say the idea is from the concept of a green house.
