Default Difference between Eotech's

Advertise Here

Besides the price difference and size of the scope itself, what are some of the main differences between the various models? I'm currently building my first AR and I would like some suggestions from eotech users..

Ps.. PLEASE don't turn this into an AR vs. AK ****ing match somehow.. I know how fast that can happen

I don't know anything about the old style but i can help on the new xps series. Don't buy the old stuff

There's xps2, xps3, exps3 and exps3. Xps 2 means 2 buttons and no night vision and buttons are on the back. Xps3 is the same thing except it has a third button for night vision. Exps series is the same concept except buttons are on the side for better use with magnifiers.

Then comes the second part of the model which will be a -0, -1, or -2. 0 is the classic eotech reticle, it's the 1moa dot with a 65moa circle around it. The 1 is just a single 1moa dot, nothing else. The 2 is same as the 0 reticle except there's a second dot under the main center dot for bullet drop compensation that's mainly for use with the 3x magnifier.

I personally have the xps3-0.
Hope this helps

And the new eotechs are awesome, I love mine. But I'd personally go with an aimpoint PRO. Larue has them for $420 and they come with a factory mount. G&R tactical and bcm has them for $400 but you gotta find them in stock. Most places won't sell to civilians bc of aimpoint restrictions on the PRO for leo/mil/security only. But those three places sell to us normal folk. The PRO will be what goes on the rifle I just finished. Plus they get better battery life so less batteries to stock, and are cheaper. I got my eotech for $520 out the door.

I use an EOtech 553 on my rifle and I love it. Great optical sight. The new XPS models use one battery and take up much less rail space. There are many different models so do your research. They all seem to be fine. You need to decide if you want night vision capability or not and what set-up you will use. I like mine to index with my iron sights. They are great to shoot with. Good luck.

Both the 511 (one i currently own) and 512 and some others have probelms with the battery compartment, the battery contacts and nitrogen leaks.

Right now my 511 will drain the batteries even with the sight turned off, and the recoil of the gun is enough to jar the sight to make it shut off when firing. I also have a nitrogen leak, which makes the sight fade even on the brightest setting. Eotech will take care of all this, but it may or may not happen again.

Thats why they came out with the xps series, by rotating the battery 90 degrees its not fighting the recoil forces in the battery compartment. If you do get a new one I would reccomend looking into the Xps or going Aimpoint

I also have an XPS-2 and I love it. Sturdy for what I need it to do and so far the battery life has been decent. Aimpoint's PRO sure is appealing though for a "backup".

What's your limit for optics? I would suggest an XPS3 for shooting up to 100 meters, and also a flip to side mount for shooting past 100 meters. I have both of these, and used them in Iraq. The only downside to these, is that they use Surefire batteries.

Don't have to use surefire batteries. Any cr123 will work. Granted I do use the surefire batteries bc they are cheaper than anything by duracell or energizer

Sorry, didn't mean to make it sound like it has to be Surefire batteries. In my unit, we say "Surefire" referring to the Cr123 batteries in general... But yes, ANY Cr123 battery will work. Good thing about the EOTech is it doesn't drain your batteries horribly, so any cheap generic brand works well.

Oh ok lol. I can't find anything but rayovac brand at one store and it's higher than the surefires. I can get 6 for $12 or 4 for 10 in a plastic hard case. Wish they ran on single AAs. This is one reason why I want an aimpoint. One battery lasts 3-5 years if turned on and left on. One battery is 6 bucks but but 10 and you're set for life lol

Yea, it would be much better if it still used AAs, but I guess it's a tradeoff for having something more compact, taking up less real estate on your top rail system.

If you're dead set on an eo tech, get a newer one. An Aimpoint H1 would be a better choice in my opinion. In the end it will save u money on batteries. I highly doubt an eo tech would survive the torture test the Aimpoint survived Larry Vickers put on a Daniel Defense M4.

My only regret after buying two EoTechs is that I should have got the models with the on/off buttons on the side.
If you add a magnifier, buttons up front is a pain.

As for some of the problems others have mentioned, the recoil from a 20gauge shotgun has not effected this Eotech in any way....

I bought a eotech about 11 years ago. one year ago it started draining batteries. I called eotech and told them what the deal was. Guess what? No dice!! Tech guy said that model is too old to fix, dont make the components anymore. Needless to say I was ****ed and will not buy another eotech.

I'm sorry, but did you say Eotech with a magnifier on a 20 gauge?

Acogs and Aimpoints I've used in tactical situations, never an Eotech. When we purchased our optics for the last party in the desert we moved from aimpoints to Acogs, while many argued for eotechs. I have used differing levels of eotechs, but couldn't tell you which model was better as I don't know the nomenclature for each. I will say, I enjoyed my aimpoint more so than eotechs (generally speaking). My next AR will have an aimpoint pro on it.

Now I need a 20 gauge with an eotech and a magnifier.
