Whatever the lifespan of the weapon in guestion is,
thats how much ammo you need. They intend to ban the stuff, buy early and often. |

I agree, I start buying a box of the good CCI .22lr each pay. Half of the 1,000 rounds I have are the crap Winchester Red Box with 555rds, my Savage 64 doesn't like them. I'm gonna see how they are in my sisters M&P 22.

ammo is kinda like food in my book.......If you can't replenish it yourself then you should plan for the long haul. Four defensive rifles .223 2500 rds each 12 ga. 200 rds 00 buck 100rds slugs and 400 rds #7.
Pistols we keep 1000 rds each since we have several different ones. The rifle we hope to use most are .22's we have 20,000 rds there cheap we also have some odd ball stuff like 22 mag , .410, 20 ga. we really don't factor in. We also store powder for reloading although we don't do much reloading it can be used for other things as well....... Its hard to really plan for how much cause each scenario can be radically different. |

Here are my rules for working out how much ammo to have. #1 Every firearm should have 500 rounds #2 Your main firearm (the one you would pick up first if things go bad) needs 1,000 rounds #3 You can't have too much 22lr ammo #4 Once you reach these targets for #1 and #2 keep buying it would be a bad feeling to run out. So like others have said pick up another 5,000 rounds of 22lr it will cost you about $200 but should last you a long time. I do have to say I don't have all the ammo I need for my firearms but I am working on it. I also want another AR so I am going to start doubling my ammo before I get the rifle. Good luck and keep up the good work. |

Never is a limit.
I would rather go with the minimum as a start, how much can you carry and go up from there. |

Never enough, never. Buy as much as you can, as often as you can.
The only time you can have too much ammo is if you are on fire, or swimming... |

I don't have much really. I only keep a dozen bullet things, or whatever they're called, laying around somewhere. I had a gun once, but I lost it somewhere...

You need to consider two inventories.
One is for personal needs. The other is for barter. If the SHTF, food, firearms and ammunition will likely be worth more than money or gold. People cannot eat gold and will barter for what they need at that time. Never let anyone know what you have in inventory. If people know that you are stockpiling food or ammunition, all of your neighbors will be pounding on your door when the SHTF. |

Whoever used 500 rounds in New Orleans during Katrina would be in jail for a long time.
I have more than that, but 1,000 rounds per gun is good. I would get the shotgun up to speed too. It is an excellent gun for folks who have little experience with firearms. I think it is the ideal home defense firearm too. Very potent and no sights to line up in low low. Line the rib up and pull the trigger. Very good field of view compared to anything else. Slugs need iron sights or a scope to be utilized well. So just get 100 to 200 rounds of buckshot and one or two 250 round cases of #6 shot. Those 7 dollar a box do come in #6, they don't stock much of it though. You can shoot clays with #6 shot. You'd be hard pressed to notice any difference when hand throwing clays at yur feet. Most places do not allow it. Larger shot flies farther away. When shooting clays, the 7.5 or 8 shot pellets travel roughly 150-200 yards. #6 shot is roughly 250 yards. If where you practice shooting shotgun has a safe zone of that range, then #6 is ok to use. |

I keep 1K rounds of 5.56 M855 greentip for every AR that I own. I also have 1K rounds of 75 gr BTHP (Hornady TAP) that I loaded and put on stripper clips. I have quite a bit of .22lr probably in the neighborhood of 25,000 rounds. Also I keep about 500 rounds of Federal Flight Control OO Buck, plus various other shotgun shells. Since I have a 50BMG I try to keep at least 500 rounds of that around, I believe I have about 600 rounds loaded right now....
I don't have any reason to keep the amount that I do... that's just what I've decided is the right amount for me I guess.... ![]() - Clint |

I truly don't believe anyone here can tell you what you need. We each have an opinion of future events. I plan to keep my head down and blend in as much as I can. Others will go on the attack and likely be killed shortly there after leaving behind all kinds of high dollar gear and a big stash of ammo.

But some folks have a variety of firearms with a variety of calibers. So it can be very hard you reach to this rule of thumb. Personally, for calibers I don't shoot often, and basically keep the firearm because of it's nostalgic value, I do not stock up that much. However for the main defense and hunting rifles I keep more. Each one has to adjust to the individual situation, each of us is in. A general guideline, like "if you do XYZ, you are good to go" does not exist. |

Lots of good insight, I'm surprised to see how many .22lr rds people have, not that that's a bad thing. I have 10 mags each for my AR and AK and all the 5.56rds are on stripper clips. I buy 2-3 mags for each rifle every 3 months when the gun show rolls through.
Also I need more 30-06 since I literally have 3 rds for it. Just to note some of my reasons to stock up, as I believe that the prices are gonna continue to rise, especially if the Imposter is re-elected, I think he'll try to put a tax on ammo as they do with gas, alcohol, and tobacco. If shtf, it'll be a good bartering chip. Then if my state decides to ban certain ammo, I'll already have what I need. |
