Post Tarp/shelter picture thread.

Advertise Here

Thought I'd share some pic's of some of my tarp set-ups.
Would like to see how others set up camp if you don't mind sharing.

Thanks.

This ones from a hiking trip in the mountain near my house in PA. Mid to late november, lows in the mid 20's.
Made from a cabelas "wing thing" sill tarp and natural materials.

Northeastern PA Appalachian Trail trip, mid October. High 50's, low 60's during the day low 40's, high 30's at night.
Made from a tarp, military issued poncho and hiking poles.

Same trip different night, pretty much same set up.

One from a kayaking trip in the Adirondaks this past fall.

One I made one time while fooling around at my cabin.

One my kids made in front of our cabin....they are learning.

Found quite a few natural shelters while hiking here and there....here is one of the best.

This one was pretty nice to, it had a natural opening that would make a good chimney.

Feel free to ask and questions and please show some of yours.

Love the pics thanks for sharing! It amazes me how a piece of tarp can make shelters like those. By chance, do you know the sizes of tarps you used?

Matt,
Thanks. the blue tarp is an 8'x10', the cabelas sill tarp is IIRC 16', but it's not a true square. Next time I get it out I'll measure if I remember. The others are single or doubled military issued ponchos.

Twyggy,
Great pictures, I'm diggin the poncho umbrella.

The poncho umbrella is great unless it's gonna rain for three or four days straight!

I found this deep in the woods today, a half fallen (or half finished can't be sure). They'd used moss to cover most of it and the were remains of a quite old fire pit just outside of it. There was enough room to lay comfortably and store a small pack. Sorry about the pic quality I only had my phone. I may go back and redo it as it seems unused and is quite hard to get to.

Here's one I already posted pics of. It's an 8x10 wally world tarp.

I like this thread so I think I'll post a couple other configurations I've done recently. One is my favorite wally world tarp and the other my space blanket I always take with me.

Here's a couple more I played around with in the yard today. Same 8x10 tarp too btw.
First one is a basic pup tent.

And here is a clam shell with 3 army issue shelter half poles on each side.

EEEHHHHH those are kinda cool but also pretty complicated looking. I wonder how quick some of those are and how difficult . I like my simple setups which all take about 10 minutes or less to setup.

They're more for fun/variety than practicality. ;]

I just like using them to mix things up.

Cool. I've always liked simple and easy and quick to put shelters. Which is why I prefer tarps over tents.
