Social Security is a Ponzi scheme and everyone has known this for a long time. Everyone knows there is no money that has been set aside. However I do believe people are should get back the money the were forced to put into it. The average Social Security recipient got $1177 a month last year the vast majority of people on Social Security get far more than they paid into it and that is a form of welfare.

As Ron Paul says "Social Security is unconstitutional" and wants to free younger Americans from paying into this massive fraud. He plans to take care of the elderly with money saved by cutting back the military.

No way in hell has an average social security collector put in enough to collect $1177 a month or $14,121 a year in benefits.

Yeah .. I remember that thread where I stated some need to be told .. or least be more responsible for their health. I for one am NOT OVERWEIGHT ! Your answer was ???? RIIIIGHT .. You think social security is bad, wait until the state and local defined benefit obligations kick in. What the Gov and the unions agreed to give themselves for pension, and what the pension funding was is too different things. They are so far underfunded, you will have to see massive tax increases at the state and local level just to partially fund this junk.

It is a hell of a thing when one generation can promise themselves a great retirement and make the next generation pay for it.

Broke baby boomers living on the dole on the Soc Sec are why criminal bankers and corrupt politicians will stay in power. They need and benefit from the corruption.

Their lives are funded by taking away money from the working people. They want that.... what is it this year....$1250? a month pay out.

The US government is broke. Only banking and financial subterfuge and money printing can keep those checks rolling out. No reform of the financial system can happen because millions of baby boomers are living off the corruption.

The whole system can't be scrapped because of all those greedy and selfish baby boomers who were too stupid to save for their own retirement ( I bet alot of them owe thousands in credit card debt) They were too selfish and greedy so many of them are now old and broke.

IMO Social Security is an EASY FIX .. just make the Government put it back the way it was set up .. in other words MAKE the Gov get their grubby fingers out of it, stop funding other programs that never paid into it It has only been the past year that it has paid out more than it took in .. that would be LESS JOBS contributing .. why? Could that ALSO be due to Gov NAFTA allowing jobs go overseas? Illegals crossing our borders and the Gov wants them covered with SS too?

Lots of voters of different ages, weights, and colors recognize that fact, and possibly older people recognize it even more viscerally because of what they've experienced. That's whats keeping Ron Paul from getting elected.

Since you need to be 62 at a minimum to start drawing reduced rate SS. That means that only those born during 1946 to 1950 are now eligible to draw. This leaves the vast majority not getting any benefits as of yet. Next the SS trust fund is not due to run out till 2036 while Medicare is expected to run dry in 2024 (http://content.usatoday.com/communit...-republicans/1 ) This means the Baby Boomers have paid in more than the system has paid them. That is a fact and refutes your argument.

.................and to the OP. I barely qualify as being on the tail end of the Boomer cycle. I certainly don't remember being old enough to vote when SS was instituted and FORCED on me. To the reference of the boomers should have realized the SS system is a ponzi scheme and should have made other plans regarding retirement............any with any sense did. Either through company pension plans, personal 401ks and such. Anybody who thinks they can live off SS alone is in for a rude awakening.

Obama was born in 1961. I feel safe calling him a late-stage Baby Boomer. My father was only born a few years before that and my grandfather fought in WWII in the Pacific.

And let's not forget, approximately 1/3 of the national debt was also raised by G.W. Bush as well, and he was born in 1946, which is about as young as a baby boomer could be. G.W. raised the debt to go adventuring around the world and to give free prescription drugs to baby boomers paid for by the next generations.

This isn't a Republican vs. Democrat issue. For many young people, the only tangible difference between Repubs and Dems is their stance on abor tions. All other issues the parties fight about are only issues of degree in spending on programs and not of the existence of programs themselves.

I was not trying to be snarky in my post, and I hope it wasn't interpreted that way. People have a tendency to jump to personal insults and belittling others when their belief system is challenged. I don't think you were being rude, but I thought I would throw this in at the end of this post because many other people have already jumped to insults. I think this is an interesting debate.
