Default This week's inexpensive knife

Picked this one up from Ebay this past week or two. Sorry to say I forgot about it til the new sheath came this week.

It's a Maxam, real honest to goodness 440 steel or it sure as heck seems to be, approx a Rockwell 56-58 with a test file. Nice edge from the box, cuts cardboard well. It's a solid 5/32" steel and a full flat grind with a small edge bevel. Nice with a capital N. The blade's laser marked with the Maxam name on the front ricasso and a very small "China" on the back. There's a Maxam shield on the sawcut Delrin slabs as can be easily seen.

It cost $6.99 with free shipping.

Pros: it's a pretty damned fine copy of a Schrade Old Timer Sharpfinger! If it weren't for the Maxam shield and name, one could easily be convinced it was a new Sharpfinger model. It has that old Old Timer feel to the hand. Heavy and solid as a rock. Fits the hand *very* well! Has a tiny bit more tip than the OT and not in a bad way. There's literally nothing to it that says low quality. All the parts are tight and rock solid. The Delrin is top notch!

Definitely a high 8/9 on the cheap Chinese knife scale.

Cons: only one on the knife itself. The sawcut Delrin ridges near the butt on the shield side are slightly mashed in one small spot. Could have been when the rivet was driven in....could have been something heavy pressed on it in shipping. Only other flaw, and it's one I grit my teeth at but just accept it, is the cheapo nylon sheath. I can't stand them. The new leather in the pic was something like $4 with free shipping, Ebay as well.

Excuse the fingerprints, smears, and photography.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

Once again, those are skimwords links. Not mine. Suffer along with the rest of us.

I manuelly put the skimwords on block through internet explorer. So far it's worked good.

For that price you can't beat it. I got a $6 Amazon blade that came with a fire stick, and decent sheath. I'd gave it a 5/5 rating. It holds a good edge, full tang with paracord handle. Perfect for survivalist and I could order 5 or 6 for the price of a name brand knife of that size.

Gondwana, sorry for the tone of that reply, guy. I hate those things. Most folks do. Here's one.

Cheers, mate!
