Default Corned Beef vanishing?

Why has corned beef disappeared from grocery shelves? I love the stuff. It's way the heck better than spam.. It's been a staple of iron rations for a century. It can be stored for long periods of time. It doesn't need refrigeration. It's a good canned meat to stockpile.

Why can't you buy it anymore? The Irish in me misses corned beef and swiss sandwiches...

Really? You'd rather eat spam than corned beef?

Now, granted, I AM a fan of the fried spam and velveeta sandwich...

You can't find a single can of corned beef on the shelves in the Huntington-Ashland metro area. And I haven't seen one in months. Not at China-Mart. Or Krogers, or our local regional grocery chain. It bugs me because I LIKE corned beef. And I'd like to stockpile it. After all, it's best to use foods you LIKE and use regularly as preps and rotate them, no?

I have it all in my basement, LOL

All joking aside, I've seen no shortage in my area. I have several cans since it's packed full of protein and I find it to be a comfort food.

It's all over the store shelves here. Though they are stocking fewer brands than before. If your local stores have dropped it, it could have been a less popular item locally. A lot of stores are cutting back to only their very best performers. We're losing a lot of items off the shelves here for the same reason.

I wonder why there is a shortage in my area? There are a LOT of Irish descendants in Kentucky and West Virginia. Corned beef is a traditional staple. I can't imagine it got unpopular all of a sudden. Also, like I said, it tastes way better than spam... Which is, of course everywhere in the canned meat isle...

Weird... I am someone who has been known to drive 70 miles on a lark on the weekend to get some good Cincinnati style hot dogs (until my area got a Gold Star Chili restaurant)...

Hey, great hot dogs are, well great hot dogs. Worth going out of your way for...

Never thought I'd have to travel to buy corned beef.

Corned beef has gone up to $4/can in the big box retailers and $2.99 at Aldi. I can remember for the longest time it held at less than $2/can.

My ex wife used to make it. That's enough reason for me to hate the stuff.

1980's actually. We were pretty poor back then. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese was (and still is) my favorite food. Fried spam was a treat. We used velveeta or Kraft singles on it. I still fry that up every now and then.

Granted, canned spam IS a good survival stock for preserved meat.

So is corned beef... Which is a lot less... well, artificial than spam...

I can catch it at Dollar General or Aldis almost all the time. Only one brand though.

I love corned beef and hash in the morning mixed with scrambled eggs. Breakfast of champions!

Corned beef hash or whole corned beef?
The former can be found all over. I've never seen the latter in a can!

If you can get these (Cincinnati hot dogs, best brand, Kahn's) do it.. Kroger sells them in all their stores

WAY better than those pink weiners in North Carolina.

Never liked NC hot dogs when I lived there.
