Default Why is the Government buying up so much freeze dried food?

Advertise Here

I just watched a bad show on MSNBC about 2012 preppers. 90% of it was useless information but there was one small part that got my attention. They were talking to a guy who sells food stock piles for people's shelters and he said that lately he is having trouble getting the product out to retail because FEMA has been ordering it all up. I was just wondering if anyone has heard that too, or knows what it is that they are preparing for?

It's FEMA's responsibility to prepare for natural disasters. Far to many people don't prep so they 'need' the government to handle that responsibility for them.

Nothing really new here, happens every hurricane or flood season when someplace gets hit and people refuse to get out of it's path.

Then cry like a baby because they have no food or water.

Hint: they went from telling people to store three days worth of food to at least two weeks. They finally figured out every one needs to prepare, including themselves.

The writing is on the wall, it's time to prepare. Contact your local emergency management system and see if they haven't already revised, or in the process of revising the local emergency plan...I think you will find that its a nationwide effort to update the plan...many changes are coming into affect.

FEMA has take a new move towards shelters and preparedness because of new information about one of the big earthquake faults. They were stocking those shelters and warehouses. No big conspiracy here, although the truth is rarely as much fun as tin foil. I see we've already had one reply from someone who went straight for the tin foil, overlooking the more logical possibilities...yet again. All too common on this forum.

They hand out MREs, not Mountain House. But yeah, they have handed it out for a long time now. The freeze dried foods went to warehouses and shelters. If it's ever used, it'll be used at feeding stations and such, and to feed shelterees.

Different disaster, different plans.

Like MikeK said much of the freeze dried stuff is for the New Madrid Fault and such.(FEMA camps!)

They're not just buying it up so you can't get any.

I think it's more than just this. I can attest that our local EMS under Federal/state guidlines is planning and preparing like never before. For the last month or so I have been revising our disaster plan in accordance with local, state and federal law. They are taking the plan A, B and C approach. Given the worst case scenario my company should never have to rely on FEMA support, and only minimal support from local aid. I don't know what got the ball rolling but the officials are in high gear.

I don't think it's that simple. In the last month or so I've actually received a few bulletins from nationwide insurance companies along with our provider requiring comprehensive disaster planning for in-house and off site emergency shelters..even the back ups need back ups. You know some-thing is in the air when insurance companies raise their requirements.

It's not just food.
I recently put a storm shelter on order.
The manufacturer is nine months out for delivery.
Seems that the Army has quite a few on order.
