Default Best canned ham?

Advertise Here

Ham is probably my husband's favorite meat. We usually buy small ham steaks.

Is there anything in a can similar in quality?

I don't know about canned ham, but if he really likes ham, you can store real dry-cured hams for a virtually indefinite period (at least 3-5 years). They're the height of ham cuisine. Not cheap, but big flavor, so they go a long way. You can find them online easily - burger's smokehouse has a nice selection.

Like medicineball said, cured hams last many years and in some cases decades. You can make your own or buy them. They tend to be mighty salty though.

You can also pressure can your own ham as well as other meats. It is the easiest canning that there is.

I haven't ran across any canned ham that matches the flavor of a fresh baked, brown sugar glazed, spiral cut ham :D

Ok ok...... I admit it. Fried Spam slices and eggs are an occasional guilty pleasure of mine. Real ham still trumps it though.

Im with FarmerChad. SPAM is, in my mind, a great camping food. It comes in cans, but also comes in SPAM Singles.

Canned ham is not a great food to eat in the long run, because most canned hams are way too salty. Only eat canned ham when you are down to nothing else to eat in the pantry. Sometimes, your favorite foods need to be put on the bottom of the list to eat.
