Good Deal? $165 for 400 5.56 Federal Green tips plus ammo box?

It comes down to .41 per round. I can find a lot better deals online but I'm able to buy this right in the BX on base. I'm thinking with shipping and tax this may be a fairly good deal. Specially since my current stock of .223 is low and I have no 5.56.

Last time I checked, chinamart had 223 for 39.99 a hundred, I believe.

Well with tax that's certainly over and I doubt they give you any large box, besides a cardboard one. Some people swear by 556 but to be 223 is great. Thanks for the input home in oz.

My Wallyworld has been out of everything except 12 gauge for like 3 months.

Palmetto state always has smoking deals. I just received my order yesterday. Remember to calculate in the shipping costs per round.

Be advised if you live in an area with Bi-mart stores, they are running a special on XM193 100 rds for $34.

I had major issues shooting PMC bronze .223 through my daniel defense m4V3 midlength AR. With that said my local gun shop has the same deal, 20 rounds for $6.00 I plan to pick up a few boxes today to see how it shoots.

Not sure what you meant here, but you do know that 5.56 is .223, just the metric nomenclature right?

yeah I'm sure some one on here will jump my S**T on this. I know all about the supposed higher pressures that can be caused from using military 5.56 in your .223 chambered AR...Bull C**P. I have been shooting both in the same AR for years and have not only seen no damage or malfunction to my .223 AR but no noticeable difference in performance.

Your correct tho...I know some one will tell me all about the Urban Legend that is the 5.56 and swear it is bad for my rifle lol.

Green tip ss109 is kinda crappy ballisticly in the body without a barrel built for it. I don't think M855/SS109 is a good choice for the price. Accuracy wise etc its fine by the way. If you need the ballistics its all over the forums in detail.

Way too many people are posting on BALLISTICS, let me tell you something, if you get hit center mass with any round, I don't care if its a .22 LR even if it doesn't kill you, your not going to be very much of a threat to me. #1 your hurting, your bleeding and your stress level just sky rocketed and your possibility of returning accurate fire will be severely diminished. Besides that even if I shoot you with a .22 LR I will not stop at 1 round, I will keep pumping lead into you until you are dead plain and simple.

Green tips gives you good options for penetration.

I am sure with your skills that guys gonna stop stand at attention and let you get a perfect center mass shot every time. If you compare the hole it is similar to a 22 through and through, and no one suggest that to be a good self defense round which you apparently are ok. Maybe you should go get one of the new GSG rifles and call the 5.56 quits?

See how bad your argument is? The reason I pointed this out is the bullet has issues in the wrong barrel, and not just ohh its kinda less, no its alot less.

NHP1127 - What armor rated to be 5.56 proof (no AP proof) does this round go through? Do some research on it and get back to me if you find any. I haven't found any yet.... not saying there isn't but penetration with a FMJ and the SS109 are similar through most objects.

If your going to come back at someone with a rant you should slow down when typing because you didn't make too much since with what you responded with.

Please pay attention to what I said and say here now.

First of all, your main argument was lack of velocity with the green tip ammo. Just as an example the average 36 grain .22 LR round has a velocity of 1280 FPS and the average 55 grain 5.56 FMJ round is around 2700 FPS. So you are going to tell me that the green tip ammo velocity is so bad that it compares to the .22 LR? I used the .22LR analogy because it's velocity is so low.

The green tip 5.56 was designed to penetrate light armored vehicles not Tanks or APC's, basically cars and trucks.

Now on to something of a personal nature:

You will never see me however long I continue to be a part of this form site to criticize someones shooting ability simply because I don't know any of the posters on here in the real world. You Sir do not know me or my skill set nor do you need to know, so please do not tell me that I can't make a shot with any platform at any range towards any target. If you think that when a target presents itself that I am going to fire 1 single round and wait to see if that target is able to shoot back you have another thing coming, I will keep putting rounds down range into that target until I feel that the threat has been eliminated. Also if you believe that a center mass shot is so difficult than maybe you should hire a professional or take an assault rifle training course. The center mass of a human target is the easiest place to hit because it is the largest area of the human body. People that think that only a head shot from a 5.56 round is effective are morons and I truly hope that you do not fall into that category.

Lastly, Please do not tell me what fire arm I should be shooting with, I happen to have a Ruger 10/22 Tactical and within 100 yards I can also drop a target, maybe have to use a few more rounds to make sure but I can still get the job done.

All of your type on here that get wrapped up in ballistics and are looking for that ultimate stopping power round are usually the guys that are not very good shots, not saying this is you, just my real life experience
