I do not own this blade but wanted to post some interesting info on this product. Virtuovice, an experienced user and owner of blades posted a great video about his newly aquired Eskabar. In a previous video he experienced that the knife was becoming dull with just a few draws from the sheath. From razor sharp, to not even being able to cut paper with two draws. So he made a new video to run a test. In conclusion, the sheath that comes with the Eskabar is crap lol. The plastic that it is made from is either way to hard or has something in it that is not knife edge friendly. Yes some may say well draw the knife out straight and this wont happen, but easier said then done, especially if you need it in a pinch. But even if you could, out of so many times your going to slip up once or twice, and thats all it needs. Heres the video so you can see for yourself.

Good info to be aware of. I've got one in the mail right now, but I will be making my own sheath for it anyway.

I own one and ordered a custom sheath for it after reading reviews. Turns out the sheath was not as bad as people said but I still liked my smaller custom one and use that. So im not able to verify the issue with the blade becoming dull with use in the original sheath.
What I will say is that the knife itself is outstanding and works fine after heavy use including batoning. I made a small video of the custom sheath and ill try to remember to post it when im back home on my comp. |

The same problem seems to occure with the BK2 sheath as well. People are saying the plastic is glass reinforced and that is why the sheath is dulling knives. It may be safe to assume all the Becker sheaths are like this, and potential owners may want to consider a different sheath into their pricing. Best thing would be to get one without a sheath so you can save some money.

As far as plastic goes, kydex sounds like the best option. I was planing on a custom sheath for nine anyhow, as I like them to be as tiny as possible when worn as a neck knife. The eskabar looks sweet, I wish mine would hurry up and get here.

The izula sheath is a pretty nice sheath with solid lock up. But the retention is alittle too much and puts too much pressure on your thumb when trying to remove the knife. Other then that its good. Id like a sheath even slimer and more minamilistic. This sheath is designed for the survival kit stuff, but I dont plan on using the sheath like that so if you find a good kydex maker post it here.

I bought one from eBay maker/seller "azshnyder5438" for Eskabar, like it very well; he makes them for various RAT/ESEE/Izula knives too.

I just purchased this knife and was wondering if anyone else had purchased a custom sheath for this? I'm looking for something more streamlined so it can be worn around the neck easier.
@marbro--you posted that you ordered a custom one--how do you like it? Where did you purchase it? Do you have any photos of it you can share? Thanks! |

You can also check out Rainwalker. He is a master leather worker and makes some damn good kydex too. His work is in high demand tho. Check his site out.

Thank you drkknight614 and Loadedfist for the suggestions.
Rainwalker's leather sheaths are amazing. Getting a custom sheath from him will cost more than the knife for sure but it might be worth it. |

Ka-bar has a sheath replacement for the Necker/Eskabar. Has no fiberglass in it, so doesn't dull blade.
Not sure if they are replacing all of them who simply call in, or what, though. - OS |

Interesting, where did you hear about this? Maybe they are aware of the problem and will slowly be phasing out the old sheaths for the new ones. This is good news and good PR for kabar and becker. Shows they care.

Ka-bar forum on BladeForums. Replacement sheaths show "sheath with no glass" on the paperwork folks get. It looks exactly the same as the original sheath, apparently.
