Cool Molot Vepr AK47

Advertise Here

Finished it up today, converted it to take high-cap mags and installed a Primary Arms M3 Multi-Dot on a RS-AKM Mount. I love it

It features a hammered RPK receiver with a heavy 23" chrome lined barel and a serial number is 133..
it was made the day after my first son was born; one day this will be all his

I might put a wooden SVD style stock on it, still mulling over that idea.. would make left handed ergonomics much better

Thanks everyone, took it to the range today and put 500 rounds through it.. the red-dot is so much better on the eyes. Got lots of questions/compliments about it from other shooters.

I really didint spend much time making my shots today, with the red-dot and a bench at my disposal I thought it not very sporting once I got everything zero'd in.. With the 30 round mags I was really just enjoying the fast acquisition and led spewing.

From left to right is:
100Y, off bench - firing as quick as I could aquire until I heard *click* (30 shots), range master didnt like the rate of fire so I started shooting off hand.
100Y, off hand - aiming for the neck as quick as I could, 20 shots..
50Y, off hand - 10 shots, again as rapid as I could aquire

The circled group in the middle target was 5 shots zeroing it in, it was way off target (not even hitting the correct paper) but this is the tight grouping I was seeing when I took all the time I needed to aim (off bench)

Not too shabby imo, I wasent really trying for tight groups and was very pleased with the results today.. I love this damn thing now, I dont think I'll make any big changes to it.. Definitely my new favorite.

The boat is back, I got directly from the new Importer (Rare, LLC in NJ), they can get em in all barrel lengths and Atlantic Firearms has standard length barels in, original, mag-converted and tacticool redjacket version.

Soon they are bringing over the 7.62x54R VEPR, Im sooo getting one and putting a Wooden SVD Style stock and a POSP 8x scope on it.. But alas, I think I should grab a Siaga12 before the ship sales on that..

FYI for anyone considering buying one of these sexxy rifles, the conversion to take standard mags is 100% identical to the Siaga 7.62x39.. Install a bullet guide and file a lil off the catch lever ($25 and half hour work) and your all good.

Can you swap out the wood for a more normal AK set up......pistol grip, butt stock and hand guard?

Perhaps, but given the market I think its pretty damn reasonable.. a China NHM-91 right now will cost you ~$600-$700 used.. Spend another $150-200 and get a VEPR thats new in box, russian made and waay more accurate.

Before VEPR's started being imported again I saw used guns from the previous importer selling on GunBroker for $1200+ fyi

Yes and no, no because if you look at the pictures the receiver is shaped differently above the pistol grip.. its got a slant sorta like youd find on a PSL so nothing will just slap on here.. but with enough determination you can make anything work.. ACE Sells an adapter block tha'll make it alot easier to put various stocks on it but you will have to cut the tang off, and Dinzag makes a gas tube for standard hand-guards... The problem is once you replace furniture you have to make it 922 compliant which might force you into using only US Made mags.

Yesterday the Military Arms Channel reviewed the optic mount I used on this rifle.. Its pretty new to market and I am so personally pleased with it I am willing to shamelessly plug it for the benefit of others looking for info on it.

Thought it was a great review and usefull enough to share, I highly recommend it. I paid less than $240 for my Red Dot and the mount from separate online retailers, but now you can get the mount directly from Primary Arms and save your self some shipping.

I spent weeks researching every possible way to attach a red-dot to an AK before I went with the RS+PA M3 combo and I really dont think you can do much better for your money..

The ONLY drawback ive had with this setup is if you use flip-up lenze covers you need to lift the front sight out of the way or flex the cover a bit to open/cose it.. No problem to me at all, but if it is to you it could be solved by using a FlashKill instead of pop-up covers.

What's involved in VEPR AK-47 conversion to AK-47 mags?

Any good links on modifying the VEPR 7.62x39?

Thanks,

John
