Have had only one experience with Hesse and it was not good. That was many years ago so I cant tell you anything about their current quality. Be sure to look it over very well if you buy something with that name attached.

From what I know, they have a very, very poor reputation.

I just talked to the gun shop that is selling it and he is saying that it is better than the russian made. I think he is just trying to make a sell

Russian AKs are among the best available; Hesse, no..

This gun shop guy sounds so typical.

Don't get the Hesse. Save for something else, and get more useful information here:

I noticed that Atlantic Fire Arms is selling Arsenal SGL 31 for $819. Is Atlantic Fire Arms a trustworthy place to pick up a ak74?
Thanks a lot for the help,
Joe

Hesse is another name for Vulcan and Blackthorne. Terrible, terrible reputation on the AR side so I'd stay clear of them with an AK as well.

Definitely go with a Russian or combloc barrel, some of the US barrels are very bad. Century was selling some AK-74s with US barrels that keyholed.

Yeah, I have worked on a multitude of AK's through the years. I will not even take them in for repair.

Hesse has always had a very bad reputation for building pure junk. They've even tried changing names a few times to overcome it. But as soon as they start selling their junk again, everyone is on to them. If I remember right, their latest incarnation is Vulcan Arms or some such. Anything made by Hesse is to be avoided like the plague.
