That is fabulous. Can you tell me how you treat for white ants (termites) or is the timber already treated ?
Great idea for the green house. May copy that !
Would love to see lots more pictures.

No need for that here. The high desert is very wood friendly. The greenhouse is a hybrid design of one i saw online and my own changes. I will start getting more pics ready.

Nice work Fepony. Thanks for posting these. So, I have some questions if you donít mind.

How much did you spend overall for materials?

How long did it take you to build it?

How do you intend to use the building?

Did you get any kind of permits or build to any kind of code? Iím especially interested concerning the foundation which I donít think would be up to code where I live.

Looks like two big cisterns in the photos Ė are you hauling in water or collecting water from roof run-off?

You said you are wired for 12vcd Ė is that for solar? If so, what type and how much did it (will it) cost you?

Do you have septic?

Iím assuming youíll cover the greenhouse frame with some sort of plastic. If so, what kind of plastic? Do you have a source for the greenhouse plan that I could look at? What kind of venting will you use in the green house, how are you getting water to the greenhouse, and what do you plan to grow?

Iím just curious. Youíre obviously a very handy guy and Iíd be interested to hear what worked out well and what youíd do differently if you were to do it again. Again, very nice work on this project. I especially like the cabinets and the porch.

Total cost was less than $20k

How long did it take you to build it?

My son and I built it in 4 months working 5 or 6 hours a day.

How do you intend to use the building?

This will be my only residence. I will live here full time.

Did you get any kind of permits or build to any kind of code? I’m especially interested concerning the foundation which I don’t think would be up to code where I live.

There are NO permits required and NO building codes....although this house will withstand more than a code built house.

Looks like two big cisterns in the photos – are you hauling in water or collecting water from roof run-off?

Both...since there is only 1 "rainy season" (july and august) average rainfall is 10-15 inches a year. We have access to wells and harvest off the roof.

You said you are wired for 12vcd – is that for solar? If so, what type and how much did it (will it) cost you?

The total solar and wind costs were around $5k. 1600 watts solar and 400 watts wind.

Do you have septic?

Septic isn't in yet, but i did post a link to my septic design. Gray water will be harvested and used for the greenhouse.

I’m assuming you’ll cover the greenhouse frame with some sort of plastic. If so, what kind of plastic? Do you have a source for the greenhouse plan that I could look at? What kind of venting will you use in the green house, how are you getting water to the greenhouse, and what do you plan to grow?

Here is a link to the greenhouse covering. http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/p...reenhouse-film

I will be using 12vdc automobile fans in the gables.

All water in house will be pumped via 12vdc water pumps and gravity feed via water hose for greenhouse.

I will be growing veggies, herbs and marijuana. I am a Medical Marijuana legal user.

I’m just curious. You’re obviously a very handy guy and I’d be interested to hear what worked out well and what you’d do differently if you were to do it again. Again, very nice work on this project. I especially like the cabinets and the porch.

I wouldn't change a thing. It turned out better than i ever imagined and brought me and my son closer than ever.

Thanks so much for the compliments. I look forward to helping anyone that needs it.

Letha

I'm working on a similar project. Using cinder block, but otherwise we're pretty close. My sticking point is waste plumbing. I can't do a typical large septic and leach field. Been looking at these for ideas on designing something. http://www.envirolet.com/enlowwatrems1.html But it sounds like the system you went with is both more efficient and more economical. Small enough I probably could pull it off. So I'm wondering how it's working so far. I've looked at the site you've posted. Got it bookmarked too. Any further pointers, thoughts, details, or experiences you can think of would be appreciated. Do you intend to hire someone to pump it out? I'd love to pair up the mini leach field with a composting system to avoid that, but that might not be in the cards.

I don't have it up and running yet, but this was used by a friend and his works awesome. There should be NO REASON to pump it out if you just use it for sewage and put gray water to drain elsewhere. This is big enough for 2 people for MANY MANY years. Just fill the first barrel with water before you start and the leach field can be smaller. I plan on planting a fruit tree near the end of the leach field and drain pipe. This will help supply needed water to the tree, and the water will be clean.

This is the toilet i am using. http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CC4Q8wIwAg#
