Good review! I have had my FR- 300 for four years with no problems.

The alert button is a standby switch. This allows you to keep the radio in a sleep mode and when a bad storm comes in your area, it will sound the siren and will turn on your WX. I leave my on alert mode all of the time. In order for it to work, you set your radio to the on position. Put to WX mode with proper channel for your area, then turn the switch to alert. They test the alert system at least once a week.

I am going to buy me another one but it will be the FR 250. It is the same radio but has SW bands instead of VHF. Why... sometimes the TV stations are not able to broadcast after a disaster. But emergency management can and will broadcast SW.

Hey Chris, great job, thanks. Like mbarnatl I've got the FR250 (two of them actually). Do you know where the weather broadcast feed originates? Is it from your N.O.A.A.? The reason I ask is that I'm wondering if I got the FR300 here in Canada if there would be any weather related feeds that would be picked up...

The FR 300 picks up NOAA weather channels. Here is the link to the coverage maps. I don't think you will pickup any in Canada unless your right on the border.

I was going to get the FR250 but I found that they make a smaller version with 8 SW bands instead of 7. It is the FR350. Has the same features as th FR250 but cost $10 more.

In the video you seemed confused on the shipping and taxes, so just so you know.

The reason you weren't charged shipping is Amazon gives free shipping on some items as well as any order over $50.
As for taxes, you are expected to pay them to your state at the end of the year on your tax return.

Chit chit chitload of rain! I laughed so hard when you said that.

Good review.

I am a fan of ShortWave myself. I think tinking about grabing the Eton Fr250 shortwave radio myself.

Remember that in 2009 TV goes all DIGITAL which means your TV audio reception might not work :-(

That is why I was going to the ShortWave version myself. Eton website does not include the TV bands in the description for FR 300 anymore.

Canada does have NOAA broadcasts
Environment Canada Weather Radio
I'm in Alberta and it's channel 1 here.
it's broadcasted in both French and English.
I'm listening to it right now
on my etón fr150

Excellent, thanks. I meant to check with EnviroCan, but it completely slipped my mind until I saw your post. Thanks again!

I noticed the Bed Bath and Beyond near me had the Red Cross/Eton FR400 on clearance. Looking at the BB&B website, it is on clearance there as well. $29.99. The original price on the box was $59.99. For me, it was something useful to buy with one of those 20% off coupons that BB&B papers the country with!
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...1&SKU=14113886

So, I finally bought one tonight. It seems OK. I cranked it up and everything worked. It did include an A/C adapter, which was listed as optional, and adapters for cell phones.

One thing though, was it is VERY difficult to get the battery cover off. I had to pry it with a screwdriver to break it loose, but it seems fine now. Probably a manufacturing issue of some sort. I mean, for what those Chinese workers get paid, you can only expect so much...
