Default Weird Shotgun ammo...

Advertise Here

has anyone ever used these specialty rounds?
i was looking on this ammo website
http://ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/i...specialty-ammo

and they have a bunch of different kinds like mixed loads (bb and 00), OC rounds, flachette rounds etc. seem kind of expensive but wanted to know if anyone had tried them out. i also dont recognize many of the manufacturers.

i never really thought of getting anything but 00 to load up the HD shotgun though...

you might try some of the exotic ammo just for fun, but in an hd gun the ammo to get is the federal le 127 with the flight control wading. the website you have mentioned has it or they did have it. not sure as its been a while since I've looked. last weekend i patterned 10 rounds from a 590 Mossberg open choke sg. i started at 10 yards, at 10 i dont think the pellets even came out of the wad as there was a gash in the target like the wad went through sideways. at 20 there was some spread but not much, maybe a lil bigger than fist size. i backed on out to about 30 an still about the same just a lil bigger than 20 yards. i then went to 40 an it made a pretty good spread but still not huge. I'd say maybe 5 inches at 40 yards i was gonna go alot farther than 40 but almost got caught in a duck drownder an had to run for it. next time i'm gonna start at 40 an work my way out from there. thanks...pk

I have used their flamethrower rounds. Lots of fun. Crap load of sparks out to about 75 yards or more.

I have used flechette rounds from my Mossy 500. IMO they spread out way to quick for my tastes and there's no guarantee that they will hit point first. In the ballistic gelatin that I fired them into they went in sideways and tail first as often as they went in point first.
I also have some rounds that arent listed there. They are called bolo rounds. It's two semi-flat slugs connected by a two inch piece of high tensile wire. At 25yds the damage was incredible. First, you have the two wounds, spaced two inches apart, caused by the slugs. Plus, everything in between had been sliced by the high tensile wire. I can just imagine what this would do to the internal organs of a humanoid.

If you didn't kill the person couldn't that be considered intentional maiming? I'm all for doing it to an intruder, just wondering about the legalities?

I've used breachers and gas rounds. Gas don't cycle and breachers aren't worth the money. Get 000 buck or a sabot instead.

Ifyou want some play round these may be fine. However, I would simply make a visit to the local gun show, Cheeper then Dirt, and better yet WM and stock up on various bird shot and well as 00, and slug for most any situation you could encounter with your 12 or 20. Those other type rounds I wouldnt bet my life or my family on.

the flame thrower rounds are great we tried some one night at a party and the only downside too it was we caught the woods on fire and spent the next 30 mins stomping out the fire

I like the idea of the 00 buck/slug dual load, but the rest seem impractical to me (though they do look like a lot of fun).

The exotic ammos I buy are for really bad times so I am not to conserned about legalities. Currently around the homestead standard commercial or equivolent is the way I go. Knocking out an E class urban insult vehicle with AP and Incendary may not go over to well.

The flechettes are not those of military design. Those would make mincemeat of bullet proof jackets and such, so you will never see the real ones. The rest of the ammunition is something to be played with but left alone for HD. Wether you injure or kill the bad guys; using exotic ammo will make a ambulance chaser's day when he sues you for everything you have.

haha i totally agree. i can see the headlines now....
Local Man Fires Upon Hapless Intruder With Armor Piercing, Cop Murdering, Killer/Torturer Ammunition
ok maybe thats a little long...

anyway, i wasnt considering these for HD just wondering everyone's experiences. i need to build up my stores of reliable and tested ammo before getting any of the bells and whistles

Thanks for the responses everyone

Be very careful about using those exotic rounds. In some states, like Illinois, those rounds are illegal. If you get caught with them, it could cost you more than you want...

Regarding HD; if you live in an apartment, maybe you should step down from 00 to a smaller load. 00 will go right through studs and into the neighbor's. A smaller load will still get the job done.
