Default Wilderness Way magazine still being published?

Advertise Here

Hi All! This is a wonderful site. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Wilderness Way magazine is still being published? Its a quarterly and the last issue I got, volumne 15- issue 4 was last spring. The magazines are no longer at the newstands nor is the wwmag.net up any longer. Their web domain name is up for sale. The owner and publisher isnt the most responsive person to deal with. Its a great magazine and I hope it didnt go belly up. Anyone know whats up or if theres any issues printed after # 15-4? thanks

Just found out from one of the article contributors that Wilderness Way magazine is no more. The Publisher/owner stopped contact to all and abandoned the publication nearly a year ago. I suspected he was a turd as when ever I would order from hom I had to contact him several times just to send me my order. Its too bad as that magazine was a gem to primitive skills. I hope someone else fills the void as no other periodical covers the topics. The closest is backwoodsman.

Thank you for posting this. I loved Wilderness Way! I received a 2010 renewal form to WW magazine at the end of 2009. I sent it in with my $18 subscription fee and never received another magazine. Just when I thought they were kicking things into gear too. Ah well.

Try Backwoodsman Magazine. Great magazine, lot better service, and they are asking for writers. If they publish your article you get a 1 year subscription (every other month). I've gotten them for 4 years now.

Interesting how you insult a person knowing nothing of what really happened. The man ran that publication by himself literally, it was a labor of love and passion. Several times him and I had conversations via the telephone, he was very committed, but how can someone pay for all that cost when people showed little interest? Why would you expect him to labor for nothing? Frankly you have placed yourself in the closet backwoodsman description by your assumptions and accusations that he was a "turd". Got to love that eat your own mentality. Maybe you should have offered to write articles for his magazine to help it survive?

It is so easy to attack and accuse when one sits in his LAZY boy chair with his keyboard as his protector.

The problem of American society is we as a nation love to talk the talk and not walk the walk.

Please do not think I am being harsh, because I am not, I am in fact being honest. We as a nation support nothing we love then bitch when it dies from neglect. We have become a demanding child of a society. I would bet 99% of survivalists wouldn't last 30 days in a truly primitive survival scenario. Most would loose their mind with no IPODS, cell phones and computers. Oh before you counter attack that I am one of those I describe, I moved in 1995 to the farthest reaches of Northern Michigan in a state forest and I live the life most people dream of living yet couldn't even if it was to save their lives. I was one of Wilderness Way's first few subscribers and one if it's last.

I hope this reality check didn't ruin your day, it was only meant to place things in perspective.

balien, good for you. You are above the rest You'll impress me when you dont need to talk about survival to seek recognition from others, but live it without the novelty appeal. Can you do it without living in a commune like the MTV primitive group of Teaching Drum?. As for the owner/publisher Miss Kelley Lily he/she wasnt a very good communicator with even the folks he/she worked close with. I e-mailed Christopher Nygeres and he was the one who told me the end of Wilderness WAy was abrupt with no communication to him or others. Lily's mailbox was filled when I called. I suspect it probably still is full today. I hope Mr/Miss Lily refunded those with unfilled subscriptions. I often had Kelly Lily dragging his feet on my orders. Including the $100 I sent him for the 40 back issues. Good riddens, I say. Hopefully a responsible fellow like Christopher Nygeres will pick-up where Kelley's lack of motivation left off.

Starting with I guess your post is some form of sarcasm, oh I don't watch television, and almost never have since I was a child, there is nothing on television fit to watch including the news.

Also I don't wish to impress you, nor do I seek anything from you, so much for your ego.

As far as a commune nope never did that and never will, I don't need someones socialist utopia to make my life any worse than Detroit did.

Frankly I can't verify what you say to be true so it remains just more internet hearsay, and I think you can understand why anyone would say this. The internet has become nothing more than a electronic trashing and bitch session tool for those who live off the lives of others. Sadly it could be better used than trashing people with unverified accusations, and that was my point.

If what you say is true then I am sorry for all your troubles, my experience was quite different.

I actually found, or stumbled on this site looking for information to recommend to a young person who lives across the country from myself who inquired about survival and the lifestyle, I don't have much use for the internet With that I bid everyone a good day it is pushing for -4 or colder again tonight so I need to feed the wood stove.

bailen, if you had no use for the internet you wouldnt be prowling to pounce on those you feel you need to share your MTV commune Teaching Drum experience with. I think I know who you are as I recall an article of some guy living in a tepee in Michigan after Teaching Drum in an early Wilderness Way magazine. Am I wrong? If you be that guy you are pompous in that article. I'd still like to meet ya as you are interesting if you be that guy.

Sir, I'm just going to say that the internet is not the best place to preach the whole "talk the talk, walk the walk" thing. Obviously, you don't live a very primitive life if you are talking to us from a computer. Please do drop the "holier than thou" act, if you weren't trying to look like a bad *** then you wouldn't be bragging.

all things have a life time of their own. TWW just never made the transition from a memorandum to a genuine commercial enterprise. Others did, or they dropped by the wayside as TWW appears to have.

I had no clue it's gone, been trying to reach him to renew, and can't reach him, guess it'ss gone.Try Bushcraft & Survival Mag,it's a British mag, and is pretty good, a bit simplistic, but does cover WW mag's subjects, to a point. Backwoodsman is the best. Also try Primitive Archer, it's for bowhunters and makers mostly, but has medecinal plants info, and great historical info, it is pretty good, it does a good job of being a broad subject matter magazine. Modern Survival is great, it is the reincarnation of American Survival Guide/Practical Survival magazine. Tactical Knives is also awesome, it has some good info.Other than that, copy all you can from the various Primitive and Bushcraft sites, you can't depend on the wb being here always, it won't. Sites and info disappear all the time, and the net will not be here forever, count on that. Printed matter is THE ONLY true way to presrve it. Print as much WW mag articles that you can find. Maybe I can sell the few spare copies of WW I have somewhere someday. Good Luck, hope this helps, thanks for the info on WW mag, I was wondering.

Kid, do you know what you're even talking about? Only one acting holier than thou is you, and ever heard of a generator? I suspect that he knows more about the backwoods than most of us, and uses the computer to talk to , oh maybe his family, since phone service may be iffy out in the boonies. Also, using a woodstove is some darn hard work, I know that you probably couldn't spend all winter splitting wood into faggots for heat. I apologize to you all for ME sounding holier than thou, it wasn't meant to, just kids nowadays have nothin' but s#!^ for brains, seems like.

Thanks for the comment, it is true. I am jealous of your lifestyle, but I wonder if I could cut it myself! I also was a WW subscriber for years, sad it's gone. Mr Lilly sounds nice, I, to be honest did have to call several times, to get my order, sometimes it took months, and not one or two, but I was patient, I had no idea of his schedule and such. I never was impatient with him, just thanked him for his time and apologized for calling again! Maybe you a Mr. Nyerges can get some people together for another go a WW?? hAVE A NICE DAY, AND SORRY TO BOTHER.
