Bushmaster AR-10 vs. DPMS AR-10

Which one is better? Which one do you prefer? I am getting one in a month and a half and can't decide.

A holding company by the name of Cerberus owns Bushmaster, DPMS, and Remington Arms, so there's probably not all that much difference in them.

Both are great guns but I think you'll find DPMS cheaper--not cheaper quality but cheaper in price. Either one you get, you won't be disappointed.

"ar 10" is an armalite, all others are varients of the armalite model. my advice is an armalite 1st then a dpms

Not to keen on Armalite's AR-10 because they use a proprietary magazine.
The others use a more "universal" magazine.

I think it really comes down to which model and/or options you are looking for. I like the Armalite best except for the magazine issue.
IMHO The worst problem with the AR 10 style rifles is that the uppers are not necessarily interchangeable between brands, keep this in mind if you intend to get ,say a 16 inch upper for defense and a 24 inch upper for long range shooting.

Based on my experience with my 5.56 DPMS I would have to say DPMS would be the better choice, but I have read good about both.

Colt first and then Bushmaster second are your best bets.

Historically, IMO Bushmaster barrels were much better than DPMS. Now, they are probably the same since owned by the same bunch and likely using the same machining. I think Armalite is the way to go, but thats me. Research the magazines that each one uses. Some use AR-10 mags(expensive, but now Magpul makes them for $20) , some use FAL mags(that used to be dirt cheap), and for a while DPMS used a proprietary mag.

DPMS = Craftsman
Bushmaster = Matco/Mac
Armalite = Snap-on

LWRC R.E.P.R. = Facom?

Where do you put the REPR in your analogy? I don't follow those rifle brands or tools too closely

Based on my experience with a DPMS LR-308 AP4 I would have to say the DPMS would be a great choice!

Jeffrey,

I am wondering what you mean by Bushmaster = Matco/Mac since I have never heard of those companies, and also ArmaLite, I thought was a great producer, and also Snap-On is great producer, right? So where/how are you rating Bushmaster?

(I ask because I just bought my first AR, a Bushmaster, M4AK)

Matco an Mac are high-end tools. They are not as highly regarded as Snap-On for some reason. They are damn good.

Didn't know that either. When did Colt start making AR-10's?
