Default LDS cannery trip in MI was a great success.

I want to thank all who have posted in the past about the LDS canneries. I didn't know about their existence until a month or two ago. I called the last week to inquire about their rules for non-members. The manager from the MI branch, John, stated that there are no restrictions anymore for non-members. This seems wrong from what I've read on the boards but....

I wont go into what I brought back but I'm very happy with what I had time to get and look forward to the next visit before Xmas. There were not many people there (5 including myself) and that made it easy. We were split into teams. The other team was getting a lot of bulk stuff and must have had a monster bill but they were nice enough to assemble over ten #10 can's of dried milk for my team. We were just too busy with our other items and they had already made a huge mess with the powdered milk, so they just kept going. I appreciated that greatly !!!! It saved us a TON of time.

The bill was pretty low for all that I bought and I'm eager to get back there a few more times. I just wish it wasn't 2 hours away from home. Oh well....

If there's one in your area, shoot them a call and set up an appointment to do some canning. It's well worth it !!

I too would like to know which one in MI he went to. I'm in the SE and if it's the Farmington one it's only a 20-30 minute drive.

The Local Elder is in charge for the rules for non-members.

Glad you enjoyed the services of the church.

Ahh... I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering how the rules seemed to vary from place to place.

I just got word from a friend at a local electronics recycler that he has two enclosed server racks, both on wheels, that he's snagging for me. I'm going to build in shelves for a canned food rotation system. Having them mobile will be a big advantage, I think. I'll throw up pics as I transform the racks, on another thread.

Of all Church's I've attended, I have to say the LDS members are the most friendly and hospitable.

Kudo's to them.

I know the one in DFW in open to non members..my friend just went over there and bought a ton in bulk..if you want to buy big bags then you don't have to do anything but go and pick it up..if you want to can in #10 cans, be prepared to do extra for the cannery..just the way they work it..but their prices for wheat and beans are out of this world

I've visited the Sacramento, CA LDS Cannery, which is open to non-Mormons during non-peak times. I'll probably have to do a video on my YouTube channel ... it was a fascinating experience.

That's what I've read elsewhere, too, but that was not the case at the MI location. We swept the floors at the end, then had to offer, a few times, to get him to let us mop as well. The manager, John, seems like the type of guy that doesn't want to hassle anyone with work but I felt like I NEEDED to do more for them. I averaged 3.94 per #10 can, after it was all tallied up. That was excellent IMO.
