Default NEF Pardner 10 Gauge Turkey

Advertise Here

Well i just recently order the Pardner 10 Gauge Turkey setup from H&R. I did a search on here to see if anyone else has this gun to see how much they like it, but the search came up empty. If anyone has it or knows anyone that has one I'd like to know their opinions.

It should be here in another week or so, and i'll be ready to report back how my shoulder feels!

yeah it should pack a punch. I own several other makes from NEF, so I'm used to the kick a single-shot gives, but this one should take it to a whole new level.

I had one back in the '70s.

You do not pattern this gun, you shoot it once to see where it hits and quit!

Then you shoot it only when you are certain you will hit your target with the first round.

Every time I pulled the trigger it made my nose bleed.

I twitch every time I see one.

How much did that cost? I'd love to get one. I've always wanted a 10 gauge.

Total cost from Wal-Mart was $252.00 with no tax since this past weekend was sales tax free on gun purchases in the Great State of South Carolina!

I am going to second the motion on that one! I own a standard weight 12 gauge like that and it will definitely let you know you touched off a round even if your shooting stout 2 3/4 inch loads. I can only imagine what kind of a beat down your going to get with a 3 1/2 inch mag 10 gauge in that light of a gun, but I am sure when you pull the trigger it will have your undivided attention. The ultra slug in 12 guage I have has a bull barrel and looks more like a blunder buss or 40mm grenade launcher, and weighs a good bit and its pretty pleasant to shoot 2 3/4 inch slugs out of. A 10 guage in that format with a smooth bore might be okay to put a box of ammo thru.

Cool let us know what you think about it when it does arrive and give us a range report as well. Depending on the choke it should make quiet the Turkey Buster!

I have the Pardner s82 by New England . Purchased it 10 years ago. No problems so far. It has a tight pattern out to 70 feet.

Well I have some bad news.

Since I had not received a call from Wal-Mart I gave them a call to see what the status was on my order. Apparently the clerk should have contacted the Distribution Warehouse to see if it was in stock before letting me make the order. If it wasn't in stock at the warehouse, the clerk was suppose to contact the manufacturer to see about production. Well this clerk didnt do either.

I spoke with H&R today and they are currently not in production at this time of year and the production timelines for 2011 has not been released yet. So I could potentially be waiting forever for production. The H&R rep told me I could call back in late January as they should have the production schedule by then and that would give me a better timeline of when and if this model shotgun would be produced in 2011.

So needless to say I had to cancel my order with Walmart, since I didnt want them keeping my money forever. Guess I'll have to keep my out eye out on Guns America to see if one becomes available.

They did you a favor. Recoil is about 4 things, how much cartidge you shoot, how little the gun weighs, how the gun fits you, and how you hold the rifle.

In traditional trukey hunting position, that light thing with no added scope weight, and shoot a mganum 10 gauge round equals a brutal experience.

Shooting a big bad gun does make ya a tough guy, shooting what you aim for well is a much wiser thing to do.

Studies have been done, a 3.5" 12 gauge load is superior to a 10 gauge 3" load. There is more to shooting shot shell than have a big bore. What 10 gauge loses on is pressure. The bigger the bore, the more wall thickness you need to safely overcome pressure. Whoever makes safe limits for shooting shotshell (not sure if it stil SAAMI) reduces the maximum pressure limit, from memory it's roughly 25% less maximum generated pressure. On the same note, those H&R firearms break actions have been known not to tolerate "Hot" loads at all. Several reloading sites and manuals warn about shooting certain SAAMI approved pressure rated loads from these guns. Mostly the larger bores like shotguns and 50+gr powder charge cartridges.

Going back to the tough guy debate. It's about shot placement. I know why you probably want to get that gun, "I can shoot a turkey at 70 yards". Hear it all the time. What they don't admit on monday morning "I wounded a turkey and felt bad about it".

That round barrel design sucks for aiming. A shotgun with a vented rib or even better yet some sort of a rifle type sight will produce much greater shots.

There's two things shotgun patterns do. One is they spread shot in a pattern. The other thing at longer ranges, there is a more dense center section. With that round barrel, you're not going to keep at "sweet spot" on aim at over 30 yards. I do not advise shooting a turkey past 40 yards, but folks do.

I have seen folks pattern those types of shotgun barrels. I have seen them aim over 2 feet to one side or the other because they not sure exactly where it's hitting.
