Default Vz2008: thoughts, experience?

Advertise Here

So I've been looking really hard at the vz2008 that jgsales has, its only 429 and even I can afford that! The review from people who have actually used/owned them are overwhelmingly positive (there is the fair share of "I don't touch century crap with a 5 foot-long mosin nagant..." but this is all from people who haven't handled a vz2008) I'm looking to hear your collective experiences and thoughts. One thing I've noticed is the cost per magazine seems to have dropped significantly, making the fact that its not compatible with ak mags non-important, at least in my estimation.

So please come forward and share.

I've read they can come with pretty well worn barrels, and the ergos take some getting used to, but a very solid rifle and the Q/C seems good.

I've only fondled one, never used it. It felt much sturdier than a standard AK, and I'd have no problem owning one if I fancied it.

i have a cz858, i like it alot, better accuracy than my sks, and it can be tacticool'ed up the ying yang...so far no complaints, we can't own AKs in canuckistan, the cz is the next best thing...
edit...new cz's are coming to canada, there is some sbr's 762's and a .556 version, there is a manufacturer making cz to ar mag adapters aswell, that will be my next purchase...

id probably have one if it wasnt for magazine compatability with an AK.

I have heard nothing but good and they were a value at $550. Now at $400 they are extremely tempting. I think ive seen them cheaper than the jgsales price recently but i cant remember where?

If you buy one, be sure you have a warranty. Century starts their warranty the day they make the rifle. It will have a tag on the trigger. Ask for the build date before buying a rifle online. If you get one that's a year or older, you will not have a warranty and with Century products there's a good chance you'll need it. Yes, there are plenty of reports of minor problems with the VZ2008, so be careful when dealing with Century.

*UPDATE* The vz2008 is not a tantal, it does not have the same issues, the tantal's main issue was that it had a 5.56 mm bbl and should have had a 5.45 mm bbl. The vz2008 has a nice new 7.62 mm bbl and its shoots great!! I bought mine last december and have shot it several times. The mag compatibility is not an issue since the mags are cheap and available now. Midway has them for 15 bucks, czechpoint has them for 13, I just bough 7 from czechpoint, overall, good, functional condition. Century really got it right on these guns, read the reviews online, lik 99.99% satisfaction.

No, the vz2008 is not the Tantal - it has its own set of problems.

The main problem being issues with the receivers of older models so if you are looking to buy a used one you better research it well.

And apparently Century is missing on its QC again - might want to give the rifle a once over as well before taking it out to the range.

Yeah I had seen that review prior to buying mine from jgsales, I determined through much searching of the web, that that was a very freak occurrence. Like I said, the vast majority are very satisfied. The vz2008 going for less than 400 these days appear to be the newer production runs without the receiver issues. Upon arrival, my ffl looked over the vz and was very impressed, he said he was tempted to pick one up for himself now. just my personal experience and not only condensed internet hogwash.

Your state laws will create a differnt warranty,on of merchantability and function. Small claims court can handle them.

Seriously, how in the world did you get that I was comparing the VZ2008 to a Tantal form my post? I was talking about Century's warranty.
