Default sks feed problems, HELP!!

Advertise Here

I have a noronca sks. Basic gun, love it but the mag capacity. Tried to upgrade to a pro mag 20rd. Loaded the mag fits tight in the stock. I am having a hard time getting it to feed consistently. I tried sanding some in the stock and got the mag to fit better. The issue with feeding is coming from the right side of the mag. Does any one know a quick fix. Love the look and tactical advantage of a larger mag but will not trade the reliability of factory. Thanks!

Your problem may just be the promag. It can also not be in the gun squarely. Promags are notorious for misfeeds. Try a metal mag. I have great luck with them.

the quickest fix is to ditch the ProMag... that companies magazines are notoriously lousy in most any gun. If you want a trust worthy 20rd mag for the SKS, get the Tapco plastic.

There is only one aftermarket magazine that works reliably in the SKS. The Tapco 20 rounder. I strongly suspect your problems are caused by that magazine. The Tapco mag will probably require a little opening up of the wood around the mag well to keep it from fitting too tight unless you've removed enough already. The wood pressing in against the sides of the magazines can cause them to malfunction. The instructions with the mag will explain it.

+1 and use the ProMag for a target or doorstop whichever best suits the purpose.

It's likely the mag. etenn, if you pay for shipping, I'll send out a barely used Tapco 20rd mag for you. PM me if you want it. It may solve your problem.

could you give more info on the problem? is the tip of the round on the feed hitting the flat of the breach opening? if so, where?

Wow, I didn't realise those things had gone up so much in price. I have a whole box of them in wrap that I bought years back for $5 each.

step 1:
throw Pro Mag magazine into nearest trash can

step 2:
replace with ten round factory magazine

ps - it's called Norinco

Chinese star fixed 20 rounders are great. You may need to clearance the stock a bit, but not much. They don't like 20 rounds, they're more a 18 round magazine. The 2nd 10 round stripper clip is slow to feed. They're a 10 round mag with a 20 round head start.

Another option is to buy a SKS D or M model.

I like the SKS alot, but keep the magazine as is. The only mod I really like is a peep sight. Good sights, good ammo, good practice, 10 rounds go a long way.

Yea the feed lips are plastic also. I guess I could heat and adjust them, the mag is useless to me any way the way it is. The issue is the round is flat nosing at the breech. I wanted the tapco the day i picked up this p.o.s but they were out and I was at the gunshop anyway i figured i'd give them a try. Mark it up as life lesson I guess. Thanks for all of your help.
