If it's true that all dogs have a bit of wolf in them, it must also be true that man has a bit of wild beast in him. This country needs a moral compass to go by. When the SHTF, everyone not prepared will pray they aren't preyed upon. It's like the old saying: There are no atheists in foxholes. Keep it!

To be perfectly honest I do not believe in God. That does not change the fact that this country was founded on a God completely different from the one people think of now - one from whom we gain our rights and authority but wherein we have freedom to govern ourselves and total freewill. Leave it, it's our country's history.

a couple days ago in a news confrence , i heard the obama say "god bless you, and god bless America!" I was almost floored...I thought you couln't say that anymore in this country! I thought he wrote an executive order banning that.....

Too many people are just too soft skinned. Religion is always going to exist, and hate to break it to whole Richard Dawkins/Christopher Hitchens scene, but sorry no it isn't the ultimate evil in the world holding back humanity.

It's a lot more sensible and practical to me, for an elective positive metaphysical position, which is a part of who some people are, (like a person's religious/metaphysical faith), to be voluntarily and allowably displayed publicly, and then in turn tolerated in a mature manner healthy to liberty by those who differ...

than for a negative stance (lack of a religious faith/atheistic viewpoint) to be forcefully imposed on all people on the basis of disagreement, or imcho, a bit irrational fear that their right to believe as they personally choose will be somehow be threatened through it.

The Pope tells people in Africa that using a condom is immoral as people die with aids.

The Pledge of Alliegance is 120 years old.
"Under God" is only 58 years old.

"Under God" as it pertains to the Pledge of Alliegance is not historical, it's not original, it's not how's it's always been. If the original author, who was a Baptist Minister, didn't thing it belonged in there then I don't either.

"In God We Trust" printed on money doesn't bother me, but forcing school children say "under God", on penalty of social ostracism, or worse, is wrong IMO.

Going after other people's kids for one's cause has a long, shameful history. Socialism, school prayer, forced approval of homosexuality, creationism, multiculturalism, etc, etc, for the purpose of changing society to some crackpot's liking. I understand it was the Nazis who told German citizens: " We don't need you; we have your children."

58 years ago America was worried about Soviet nukes and the very real chance of global inhalation. Scarier than WWII because we weren't coming to the rescue, we may have been the target. Someone must have remembered what the founding fathers had in mind for this nation, and decided to add "Under God" in hopes of brining us back toward him.

It may have been added late, but it belongs there.

I had already memorized the pledge and had been reciting it in class for several years, when one day, the teacher up and tells us that we now have to add the words "under god" to it. Most of us asked why we all of a sudden had to change it.

Trouble is, most folks don't remember that day.

They think that this is the way it always was.

I still say it the old way.

I voted YES. I'm as atheist as the day is long but that is just tradition. I don't get a bit offended because it's in there. For them to even consider taking it out offends me more.
