Default Grinding flour from Milo (Grain Sorghum)

Advertise Here

For those of you with your own grain mill, have you ever tried grinding Milo, otherwise known as Grain Sorghum? If I understand correctly it is gluten free.

Before I retired from farming we used to grow it some. It is more drought resistant than corn and can be planted later than what corn usually is. We planted it sometimes if we had a wet spring and couldn't get all of our corn planted as early as we wanted.

I have ground it for cattle feed using a large grinder that was made for grinding livestock feed but never tried grinding any in a small quantity.

Most of what you see growing is the red variety but there is also a white Milo. I'm not sure what the difference in taste is between the two but around here when the red and white varieties are planted next to each other the deer will just about destroy the part of the field that has the white variety.
