In beaumont, texas there is an academy on one side of the highway, and a gander mountain on the other side of the highway, kinda at a cata-corner from each other. Ganger mountain has bushmaster ar-15's for $1150. The EXACT same rifle at academy is $850 - $900. When S&W got into the semi-auto market in the late 1980's, their pistols were junk. The gun magazine writers tried to point out the good qualities of the pistols. But there were not too many good points. From what I remember there were constant feed and ejection problems. As for the sigma, I do not know anything about it because, I have re-farmed from buying S&W semi-auto pistols. S&W as a whole is not very responsive to the gun market. Their version of the AR-15 starts at $1500 (correct me if I am wrong), they do not make a camo or blued 41 or 44 magnum for hunting - its all stainless. I do own a S&W model 66 357 magnum in stainless steell and am happy with it.

Back in the 1960's S&W came out with the M-39 as a result of a Navy contract for the SEALS. The gun was issued with rubber plugs to keep water out and a screw-on suppesor. The SEALS had origionaly asked for Browning HiPowers and they hated the M-39. Most folks I knew that owned a civilan M-39 hated it because the trigger was terrible and it jamed. The same was true of the M-59. I have not heard any feedback about any S&W centerfire auto that would make me buy one over a Glock, Sig, Colt etc.

I had a SW sigma .40. It sure looked good and felt good in the hand. Mine only had one hi-cap mag and cost me well over $50 for an additional hi-cap mag (insert OUCH!)
After having it for about a year I was lucky enough to sell it at a gun show for what I had in it, needless to say I was not impressed with it at all so I just stuck with my good old cheap and reliable Rugers |

I ordered a pair of them when they first came out, put one in the case and took one home with me. After about 20 rounds I brought it back to work. I believe its Smiths attempt to mimic the Glock and the trigger pull was terrible. Way too easy to pull sideways off target.

i had a sigma 9mm. horiable trigger. i had a few malfunctions but they where easy to clear. i struggled to hit my chest size iron target at 50 yards, not bad at 25 yards. i traded in on a used beretta 92f 9mm. I LOVE THAT GUN. 0 malfunctions(over 2,000 rounds shot) on all types of 9mm ammo and i hit my iron target at 50 yards with ease.
my ruger p89 9mm is quite accurate but will jam every 1,000 rounds or so. the bad thing is the ruger jams are show stoppers. there is no clearing them quickly. i never tried a glock so no comment but i dont like the look or feel. i bet my life on beretta 92f/92fs. i have seen used ones at gunshows from $400 to $300. i will buy more as i can afford them. yea beretta is big and heavy but that makes for a good shooting accurate handgun. i have a kel tec pf-9 for a pocket gun. shot 500 rounds with no problems so far. |

I have fired several and liked how they felt, however, I have a friend that works at a gun store who says several customers returned their Sigmas to the store in pieces, in a ziploc baggie. I didn't see it with my own eyes but I believed the source, and I can't take that chance on a pistol. Springfield (XD) and Ruger both offer great pistols near the same price range.

Ok I can tell there is a lot of negitive feeling towards the Sigma, so here is the other side. I own an older Sigma SW99C this was one of the first runs while Glock was was sueing them anyway, the factory trigger pull was 8 lbs
which I had lowered to 6 which made it a little better, I have used this gun time after time and over 400 rounds with only 2 jams due to case problems, and as only using ball ammo get the ramp debired and polished, The ammo that I use is Hornady TAP rounds with no problem, and Fyi I contantly hit a 2x2 target at 100 yards, for the price I payed I feel its dependable |

How can you have a sigma in .308? The 308 winchester produces chamber pressures that would blow a pistol apart. Well, unless its a thompson contender pistol.

LMAO! I was wondering about a service pistol in .308. I bought my Sigma .40 just over a year ago and have sent about 12-1300 rounds through it without a single feed malfunction. Ball, JHP, Hydrasok- ate it all. I've found a few magazines, bringing my total carry capacity to 56.
The only part about it I don't like is the recoil spring assembly. The plastic post is flimsy and I cave to coax it a bit when re-assembling. Only modifying I've done is added a slip-grip and a bit of trigger work. I've had 2 near engagements while on duty (no actual firing on MY part) and I still think nothing of trusting my life to it every day.

I was tempted by the low price and S&W name brand, then I realised it was a plastic-framed piece of junk.

*shrugs* I have no complaints- the post doesn't affect performance at all. Better than what I've tried from high point and kel tec. If I replace it with anything it will be with either the HK USP 45 or Springfield XD 45

The newer gun are solid but anything before 05 can have problems. I'm a 92 lover but after i tried S&W MP40 I'm going to retire my beretta. I bought 2 MP's and have 3K threw one and 2k threw the other and only 2 ftf (reloads)
