Default Boito (FIE) 20 ga Single shot shotgun?

Advertise Here

On a whim, I picked up this Boito (imported from Brazil) 20 ga.
I only gave $50 for it so even if it didn't work it would make a nice wall hanger since the wood is beautiful and it has some nice scroll work on the receiver. From what I can seem to find, it was probably from either from Sears or SS. Kresge (Now called K-Mart)
It looks like it just came out of the box.

I have figured out how to break it down. The original owner had to show me how to open it up (the trigger guard pulls back)

Anyone have one of these?

They were all over the place back in the '80s. Generally a rugged daily use shotgun. Most of them also fold completey in half.

I saw a lot ot them in the jungle in use by the Indians while I was doing field work. Their favorite was 16 ga. They stayed alive with them and kept their families fed. That may not qualify then as survival guns by mall ninja standards but it had been working for the Brazialian natives for decades.

I have one of these in 12guage I bought about a year ago. I paid 475 OTD and then added a thick recoil pad. Good thing I did because at 5.5 pounds its a beast to shoot. And thats with dove loads. I wish it were a 20 and thats whats I was looking for but the 12 is okay. I do wish it had an ejector instead of an extractor.

I like to play a joke with this gun. I tell everyone who sees it that it is called a "Tap Barrel" shotgun. I hold the receiver in my right hand with my fingers around the trigger guard, then I tap on the barrel past the handguard 3 times with my left hand. At the third tap I pull the trigger guard back and the barrel swings open. They never notice what my right hand is doing because they are watching the left hand.

Then I let them try it. You ought to see all the variations of taps they come up with trying to get the barrel to open. Its a good joke.

So $50 was a fair price?

I have a Boito 20 ga shotgun also. It is in almost perfect condition, only needs a screw in in the trigger guard. Love to shoot it. I have shot skeets with it a few times. It was given as a christmas gift around 1973/4.
