I am becoming more and more worried about the way the world is heading and im trying to decide on the best firearms to have at the ready,I currently own a
Rem 700 SPS varmint .243 heavy barrel, with a 8.5-25x50 sightmark scope Rem 870 security 7 shot pump with Knoxx spec ops stock 18" barrel and have just purchased an SKS-M with 2 ,7 shot ak mags ,which is the highest cap i can have with my licence .My question is do you think i should sell my .243 bolt gun and purchase a nice NHM-90 AK 7.62x39,with a stack of ammo ,which will also be used in my SKS-M,Or should i keep the bolt gun for those long shots,Which at the mo i use for varminting,I would really appreciate everyones opinion on this ,Cheers guys & gals |

Keep the bolt action for any "precision" work that you might have to do in the future, everybody should have at least one in my opinion!

Keep the bolt action rifle and just add other rifles into your armory. Keep your additions simple so that they work with your present ammo options and fit into a possible replacement parts situation. For example, the best option for parts, so to speak, is a complete replacement rifle. That means that if you have an AK type rifle, you need to have a second AK rifle available in case the first one breaks. Simple program that has you keeping rifles of the same caliber around for emergencies.

Thank you for your replies ,The pistol laws here a super tight and are very very difficult aquire ,And in regards to my area i have steep forest country and vast farm land so i guess bolt and short range are perfect,I guess im just trying to find a reason to by the new NHM-90 AK i have in my sight ,the guy is offering me a great price too $1350 with 2x 7shot mags ,but i just dont have the money right now ,so i was trying to talk myself into selling my .243 to buy the AK,I love semi auto's ,and our government is about to make it very hard to own semi's them thats why i want to get one now

I would be worried about caliber though. If 243 is common in your area then cool, if not... Well... You decide.
As it stands I would say bolt, mainly because if you can only have a 7 round mag, you lose a lot of semi-auto benefit. With only 7 rounds you had better pick your shots very very carefully (more so than if you have a 100 rd drum), which you already do with a bolt. |

Thanks again guys for the info but i am going to have to sell the bolt gun in order to pay for the NHM-90 7.62x39 ,which i need to get asap before the laws change ,Plus i just bought an SKS-M in 7.62x39 as well so am now sorted in the assault rifle department,Thing is i can replace my bolt gun whenever ,so for now its semi auto all the way ,1 last question should i get the NHM-90 AK or the Saiga AK ,The NHM has 7 round mags which also fit my sks-m but i hear saiga maybe a better product ,the NHM is $1350 and the Saiga is $2000 ,Any opinions would be great ,Cheers guys,BTW i can apply for a special licence that allows me to own and use 30rnd mags so thats definately on the cards in the future, its just that it would cost me $400 for a 30 rnd mag,Seriously, maybe i should just move to the states

Jerry, this thread has me seriously concerned. Not being an experience world traveler, I have somehow always thought that New Zealand would be the best place in the world to go if things fell apart in the United States. I figured I would at least know most of the language (except for local idiom) and it had a very low crime rate and I am very fond of lamb.
