Default 12 ga. Surplus buckshot

Anyone else seen this? I though a few boxes might be cool to put up in case I have to hunt somewhere and I don't want to stop to pick up the shells. these are OD and the tips are black I believe.

SG has them and other places. Not expensive either.

They have the same stuff at Fleet Farm for almost $6 for five rnds.
It is alittle over priced as I have been buying 15 rnds for $9.42

The stuff is Olin (winchester) made but I do wonder if it is better than 00 buckshot as it is military grade.Does anyone know about its performance and quality?

Anyway it looks like they are not selling much of it so I am waiting to see if they lower the price

That is not military grade, it is just in a brown paper box.

Mill spec buckshot is off the charts for civilian use. Sort of like some of that 9mm sub gun ammo not for use in pistols.

What we used to have was all plastic hulls with screw in top wads. It kicked like 10 ga magnum rather than 12ga.

Of course they may have whimped it down now, with most of the GIs not topping 100 pounds.

dayliterun,

Not familiar with SG?

What are they selling for?

They look like generic rounds.

It's not military surplus, it's new production ammunition for civilians

IIRC, it's also not buffered

I was considering that, but I found this to be a better deal in bulk when it's put on sale:

Now, according to these fine folks at Midway, that ammo *was* a military overrun and it was a one time deal. Btw, it's also buffered according to Midway. Take that however you want, but I think I'll trust Midway.

This Military production overrun features an O.D. green HS hull and high base black anodized head. This high performance load packs nine 00 buckshot in Grex Buffering. Limited quantities available.

Technical Information:

Muzzle Velocity: 1325 fps
I remember sportsmansguide.com and Natchez advertising these at 1450 FPS

If the price is right by all means get 'em!

and remember:

buckshot for bad guys - birdshot for birdies. Repeat

We call it MG Buck around here. As I'm looking at it now, that's exactly what the box says. Military Grade MG Buck. I shoot a lot of it. It's $4 a 5 round box at my local mom & pop. Can't tell ya anything about the stats on it. The brass is black and stamped Winchester. The hulls are dark green with "9 Pel 00 Buck" in black print. Shoots nice, but a little hot. Cycles well. I have no complaints.

As a career military guy (Infantryman), I can tell you that this is good, but basic, 00 buck. It IS buffered (small white nylon granules). Quite a long thread about it on the ShotgunWorld.com board, but bottom line: it is the same spec as the Winchester bulk pack 00 buck that you get at WalMart, only with the subdued coloring and the 5-pack G.I. box.
Bottom line: if you like the way it looks, and/or can get it at a better price than WalMart--get it!

I use it almost exclusively as my primary 00 buckshot. Very reliable, although it can be pricey. In my neck of the woods it's around $4.99 for a 5 pack.

Marketing is a hillarious thing. Package cheap and plain... throw on the word "military" and you can sell cheap crap ammo for twice the price of better quality Fiochhi.

Double funny cause if you sell it to the actual military, you can really jack the price up...
