Okay we all know what to pack and not to pack in our backpacks. Infact if we all opened our packs and compared items, we'd find that for the most part they're all the same. However, what about those few items that one just doesn't think about. For example:

I carry a pair of nail clippers. Never know when you're going to need to clip your nails, considering how hard it is to operate things with long nails.

What about you, what uncommon items are in your pack? Do share.

Skateboard, Light and Semi compact, quick transportation in urban environments
when and or if you know how to stay on the damned thing, doubles as a weapon. I
doubt I'll hear another person say the same thing, but they are tried and true bludgeons
but can be carried around without a second glance. Plus there's the added benefit that
it can be laced outside your BOB saving you precious room for things that make
more sense.

I have been skateboarding for over 20yrs, I average 27mph for 5m spans on my skateboard
before becoming winded with no equipment, and 22 mph for 3m spans with my BOB (tested)
before becoming winded. Downhill I've gotten over 43mph. No need to worry about
freaked out people in cars trying to get away in gridlocked traffic, I can go through and
around them.

Longest distance I ever went on skateboard alone (with quick 5-15min walks to catch breath)
was from Seattle to Auburn in a 5hr period, after that I had some cramping but was expecting
it.

It's not unusual but something I don't see in many peoples BOBs is foot powder, one of your best friends to keep your sweaty dogs dry.

Another is my pocket constitution/bill of rites book, good reading material and something everyone should be well versed in.

Another item in my pack I doubt few people carry is their passport. Never know when you will need to go to another country, or maybe that's just me.

I have a small bamboo hand fan. Here in Florida it gets hot and having a way to move the air across your face can be a lifesaver. They're inexpensive, lightweight and compact.

Another thing is cash, small bills.

It's hard to find a pay phone anymore. Cell phones have made them unprofitable.

I carry a set of broadheads ($5.99 @ Wal-Mart) disassembled in an Altoids gum tin (the smaller ones). I can assemble them and attach them to the end of a walking stick to make several stabbing/slashing weapons for hunting, spear fishing, gigging, or defense.

I don't know how many of you do this...I rarely if ever hear it mentioned...but I carry toilet paper. It weighs nothing and is really appreciated if you need it. I just unwind it from the cardboard roll and fold it flat into a ziploc bag.

FWIW from my old Navy days: a roll of quarters tied up in a large hankerchief makes a great weapon. The quarters become a weight at the end of a sling.

What we did is sew a roll of dimes into the black neckerchief such that normally the dimes road up on your neck under the flap of our uniform. With a sliding "knot" in the front, a weapon was only as far away as slipping the knot off the tie, grab both ends and start swinging.

My husband was tossing out all these old computer CDs-shiny on both sides. Use them for mirror, signal, etc. Also pipe cleaners. They have a multitude of uses.
