Have you taken a wilderness survival school? I'm going to on in the next few months...I'm pretty excited but a little nervous.

North Florida Survival school. It's on a "weekend warrior" course but I've heard some really good things about it.

Yes, took one in November with this guy:
http://www.byronkernssurvival.com
It was the Safe Return course and it was awesome! I felt so good after the class that I am taking 2 more. (I currently have tarp shelters set up all over my back yard and about 18 different knots in my tool box now..

Maybe I should try your guy also?..
I hope you are as blown away by your class as I was. If your guy is as good as mine was you won't have time to be nervous.

The course I'm taking is $250 which is a Weekend Warrior course. Friday, Saturday and part of Monday. There is a week-long course that is around $950...I won't be taking that one anytime soon. But I figured with $250, that's a small investment for skills training.

I have the paper work and deposit in to take the Bare Bones course next.

I am looking forward to your review of the North Florida Survival school...

For beginners it might be valuable. It is hard to find anyone that teaches these kind of classes that can really add a lot to most people's knowledge base if they have grown up n the outdoors.

It's in March and he sends out a list once you've paid for the course.

Nature reliance up in Kentucky is a good one. Had really good time met some good folks.

I took a survival course with Byron Kerns also. He is for real. Great entertaining teacher and a good guy.

It sure can get cold out in the Ocala National Forest so be prepared for some rough nights.

The three day barebones course leaves you with a knife, some plastic sheeting, twine, blanket, ferro rod, and a bottle.

Yeah, I'm kinda concerned about that. I'm no longer cold tolerant.

Not since I was a kid. Multiple outward bound type courses. Invaluable. I had no idea at the time how those experiences would be useful through my adult life.

Turn your nervous energy into something else. Even if you have to do something corny like say "Grrrrr" out loud. Attack the course. If you're concerned about something, (like being cold), because you have specific issues, tell the instructor(s) early. For one thing, you're still in a controlled environment, but for another, they can maybe cover that issue and make sure they don't miss any training / tips in that area.

Why / where are you cold? Is it feet? Make sure to use socks you know work for you; like wool socks and ideally moisture wicking. And bring an extra pair, (or two). If hiking and your feet get cold, see if they're moist or wet. It may seem really cold to take off your shoes and change socks. But if your feet are wet, they're going to be colder than they otherwise would be. Same is for other clothing.

Please report back on what you learn and the experience.

I think I'm just being a little pansy...I'll make sure to prepare accordingly and will definitely report back on this thread once completed.
