just got home from menards ,,,they had just finished setting up some seed displays ,,,,they have seeds on sale 20 packs for 1 buck ,,,packaged for 2013,,,had several heirloom variets along with others,,,if i rember right last year the sale they had was 11 packs for 1 $


just from memory there was corn ,,,peas ,,turnips,,,squash ,,carrots,,and a asortment of others ,,,thats only 5 cents a pack ,,,,cant hardly beat that with a stick

valley greene

heres a few that i picked up

detriot dark red beets 1.2 grams
broccoli calabrese green sprouting 400 mg
sunflower giant gray stripe 2 g=about 12 seeds
squash early prolific straightneck 1 g
carrot nantes coreless 300 mg
squash zucchini black beauty 1 g=about 10 seeds

i realize these are fairly small seed packs ,,they are priced on pack at 59 cents
but the advantage is for smaller gardeners or as a stock pile ,,,i grew some seed from this company last year and they grew good,,,had high germination rates ,,most all of them grew,,,for a small garden even if only half grew i think 5 squash plants would be plenty,,,im growing over 25k square feet this year,,,not realy enough for my needs but i can always get 3 or 4 packs and for 20 cents have a huge squash patch,,,beside they are here and now at a fair price

I stopped at my Wal-mart today and they had their seeds out. I saw them the other day putting out the racks, but I didn't have time to wait and see (they had only just begun, and with the # of boxes they had there, they looked like they'd be a while). So I stopped today to take a look.

I was pleasantly surprised they had the 20¢ seeds out. The last two years they had out the normal, full price packs first, and then a month or so later they'd put out the cheap ones - I assumed so that the crazy people like me who can't wait would buy the $$ ones first.

They really aren't much cheaper than buying the full priced seeds if you compare the weights. But it's nice to get some packs of things you've never tried before.

yep they get me too lol if i dumped all my seeds into a bushel basket it would probable fill it,,,some aremore than a couple years old ,,,most are from the last 2 years ,,,,a bunch are seeds i harvested from the last two years the rest are from a big order i put in last winter,,,

so even tho i got enough to plant around 5 years here i just cant help myself

they say crack is a tough addiction to beat ,,,lol they never studied a gardener

I know exactly what you mean! I won't tell you how many seed orders I've placed in the past two years... but if you saw me at Wal-mart today looking at seeds you'd never have known I have tons of them at home!

Thanks for the post. It reminded me to check locally at our Wally world. Not as good of a deal, but loaded up on 20cent packs just placed on the shelf.

the Menards sales flyer has a stated limit of 40 packs of seeds ...... the cash registers aren't adjusted for the limit ..... any quantity purchased is .05 ea ....

in addition to the seeds .... all the seed starter trays and associated are also on sale .....
