I read the book a while back, but it was a library book and I don't have access to it at the moment. At the beginning of each chapter there is a quote. One of these quotes was by a UN official justifying using food to get cooperation from the people of the countries that they occupy.
Is there anyone on here that has the book and can give me that quote and source? (currently having a debate with someone about the UN)
Chapter 32
"Food is power. We use it to change behavior.
Some may call that bribery. We do not apologize."
Catherine Bertini, UN World Food Program Executive Director, 1997
I agree with John, the book is sure fiction, to get to that state too many things would have to happen. But it is fiction...and I did read it. I also read Warhammer 40K...doesn't mean I think I am a Space Marine..or something...
Please do not base your plans on that book. I see too many people quoting from it as a basis for planning. I think Rawles has his heart in the right place, but can at times come over a bit paranoid. Read his other book "How to Survive The End Of The World As We Know It" you would get more out of it that his fiction.
Thanks WoodUSMC!
And you others, I agree with you! The book is fiction, and not all that good of fiction at that. I just needed the source of the quote he used in my argument with a friend about the UN.
Edit- now that I have the quote and the person who said it, I can verify it through other sources.
the book is actually designed to be read with a highlighter to give people ideas about tactical gear, organization and scenarios after a generic collapse of the u.s. it is written with a christian perspective. definitely not a waste of time to read
No, I wouldn't say it was a waste of time to read either. It does give some good ideas. But, the average reader does not want the insanely detailed descriptions of every piece of gear in the book. The author spends so much time going into the weight, cyclic rate of fire, nomenclature, etc of each weapon (and other gear) in the book that the story is hard to stick with.
i am about a third of the way through atlas shrugged... its pretty repedative, and based on some pretty bad science... a iron alloy using copper that is both stronger and lighter than steel... a motor that uses static electricity (which is only really electrical potential and lacks substantial current) from the athmosphere that can power a train... come on now, I am waiting for the lightsabers to show up.
