If I had to go into the deep woods and survive and thrive, I would want Ray Mears to be my guide.
If I wanted to go and have fun with my harmonica, Les Stroud. If i wanted to Go on a Batchelor weekend with the boys , Bear Gryls. |

I voted for Les. The guy takes only 5 cameras and no crew into the unknown for 7 days, so have to think he's the real deal. I do like Dave, i just dont care for the new DS. Man/woman is ok but having some booty in you bob isnt survival, its a wild romp in the woods lol.

I forget the guys name but I like him because he showed us
what not to do and took risks doing it. He was his own camera man. He went out to live with the Bears up in Alaska, and shot some great footage then one of them ate him. Ron White did a great routine on him. What was his name? I ask because I saw the movie years ago and would like to buy it again. |

I heard him through reputation, which is why I put him on the list. I believe he is on British TV and his shows are on youtube. I really like his down to earth, quit approach. Unlike Bear, who talks quickly, like a used car salesman, Ray says things so matter of fact that are great insights.

Peter
He wasn't a t.v. star, he was a real world survivalist instructor. He also instructed the military for sere school. I was one of his students. Just google Ron Hood. He died over a year ago from an unexpected severe coronary attack. |

I prefer Ray Mears, TrapperJack and I DO respect Dave Canterbury because they're very practical. I'm not a Les Stroud fan. Most of his stuff is geared toward other cultures which is fine, and fun to watch, but I prefer abject practicality.
This is one of the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=...ture=endscreen |

I DO like them. Mostly for their honesty. They did a desert show in Mexico, and had to call in help. I felt it was honest of them to do this on camera and not cover it up as some might. That rated real high on my "respectability meter". There is nothing that gets my respect like someone nutting up and saying "OOOPS! I f***ed up! and then copping to it in public. THIS is something to be both admired, and learned from.
