Homeless man arrested for charging cel phone~loses job

Judge threw the case out, but he was arrested, spent night in jail and lost his new job. He is trying to support 2 kids! Like they said, 7 cents a month to charge a cel phone, but free charging stations for electric cars. You can't even hardly get a job without potential employers having immediate access to you by phone. Don't answer, next guy that does gets the job.

Some folks told us they felt the city turned off the power at the pavilion to drive the homeless people away, who use the public outlets to charge their cell phones and electric wheelchairs.

It's just all so wrong.

Meanwhile there are city employees who get paid to sleep in their offices with nothing to do, and no one really knows what they're supposed to do.

What a wonderful world we live in, where the rich liberals and the working poor are forbidden from begging on the streets and sleeping under bridges.

Hopefully the young man will get his job back. Or possibly a better offer will come his way.

This event is very local to me. I literally drove by that park about 10 minutes ago. Its a park in a bad part of town. Its a gorgeous park. Old trees a little lake. Just in a rough neighborhood. I can see no reason as a local for this to have happened. The homeless hanging out there would not impede busimess or even be really noticable. I knew they were trying to keep the homeless away from the main st area parks and businesses. They were losing a ton of money because people really slowed down going into the area. I had figured this was where it had happened. Just a overzealous cop.

I heard several other news reports about this and I think it's more than one officer about more than just this.

During hard economic times, things get tight. If you read your history, there was a big move by small towns during the depression to charge transients with vagrancy. They had no money so they did 60 days on the county farm, and those little towns got lots of free labor out of hobos. If things get bad enough, you will see this happen again.

Jedi to my knowledge there is a part of town mostly businessses in downtown sarasota where they are definately being minimized. In the gillespie park area there is not at least a coordinated effort from city hall down like in downtown. If there is in that park then it is probably due to crime.(high crime area). This is all just to the best of my knowledge of the area.
