I'd wager the Rock Island line is THE most popular entry level 1911 choices period.

No 1911 is necessarily gonna be perfect right out of the box, but you sure hear a lot more probs with high end 1911s like Kimber than from the RIAs.

I've got an older model Kimber Pro CDP II, and it has always run very reliably. My buddy purchased a Kimber Solo last year, and it was a piece of junk-Constant FTF's and FTE's. A couple of other guys I'm acquainted with who have newer Kimbers also have problems.

I'm wondering if they got a little too big for their britches production-wise, and their quality control has suffered as a result?

I got my CCW permit recently and decided to reward myself with a new handgun.

After reading through quite a few 1911 threads and asking other owners I decided to test the waters with an RIA GI model in 9mm. Got it home, stripped it cleaned it and have put a few hundred rounds through it without a single problem.

The only odd part of it all is that I now find that shooting the 1911 is much more comfortable for me (to the neglect of my Glock and Ruger). The next project: Finding a comfortable holster for the RIA.

Yeah I am looking hard at it too. Just waiting for the first ones that flew off the shelves to be tested and reviewed.

A Rock Island Armory 5" 10mm Auto for under $600 is hard to pass on. Hoping more distributors besides CTD pick it up.

So far only complaint I see ( besides the whiners expecting a $600 pistol to have features of a $1200+ pistol) is the recoil spring to light at 14# when it should be like 20# for the 10mm. Other than that most just have issues during the initial break in period you see with most 1911s.
