When I carry a pistol in the backcountry it's a Glock 20 in a HPG kit bag.

I carry a Ruger Super Blackhawk cross draw when hunting, sometimes carry a judge back mounted. I just got a Taurus 357 I am thinking of hip carry possibly cross draw.

Always have options.

Taurus .357 on my left hip for a cross draw, that keeps it out of the way since I'm a right hand rifle shooter.

Ruger GP 100 .357 4 inch in a holster. Comes in handy just in case you have to euthanize a wounded animal.

Ruger GP100 in .357 on a hip holster. I kinda want to go to a drop holster or thigh rig though. That long barrel is a long draw for me off the hip and I can't get in my right pocket.

I carry a Smith J-Frame (642) in my pocket, 24/7, I don't see any reason to take it out while hunting or any other activity.

It has come in handy for finishing off wounded critters or dispatching rattlers. Even picking off an odd rabbit for dinner.

I carry my Smith & Wesson M&P compact in .357 Sig IWB with a Raven Concealment Van Guard 2 Holster but I carry it like that all day everyday. Only thing I do different when hunting is to shoulder my rifle on my left shoulder so it doesn't bang against my pistol when walking. Usually when hunting the spare mag goes in the pack pack instead of my pocket.
Couple of years ago I was walking along and stepped out of the thick stuff to find a small buck 15 yards in front of me, I threw back the coat and grabbed the M&P and dropped the deer with 1 shot. If I would have used the rifle the deer would have been in the next county by the time I got it ready.
