I like to recommend the double feature The Road followed by Book of Eli. The latter to me could be a sequel since it takes place in what seems a more established post-SHTF. Especially with the depiction of the cannibals.

For me, " Red Dawn" was an excellent SHTF movie.

Though you shouldn't attempt to bypass the language filter outside the DS anyway. Its a good way to get an infraction.

Not really a prepper movie. But "By dawns early light" was a made for TV movie about nuclear war that I thought did a good job showing the confusion in the aftermath of a nuclear exchange with Russia.

As for pure SHTF stuff. The Road has to be one of the best or worst depending how you look at it.

This is one of my favorite types of movies to watch, and always has been. I have seen almost all mentioned here. There were a few that I haven't seen, and Netflix doesn't stream them. That just aggravates me. One was on You Tube, but they want money for it. It was one of the older ones. I usually binge watch a series in this department, and then I'm sad it's over.

Truly horrible and I will leave it at that.
Cormac McCarthy is the man. One of the original voices in my lifetime. Not sure he'll be remembered like Faulkner or Hemingway but I enjoy his style. I watched the movie, was a little skeptical and didn't see how they could make that book into a movie but they did a very good job. Exceeded my expectations. Got two stars on Netflix so I knew it had to be good

"THE ROAD" book & movie both suck big time! Just one example, the protagonist and his son stumble on an abandoned fully stocked fallout shelter and instead of staying there and living a fairly normal life with lots of food, water and everything else they could want they take off with almost nothing walking to nowhere. What a stupid bunch of BS!

It's been a long time but IIRC didn't they stay for a day or two, and then flee when the home owners returned in order to avoid confrontation?

I don't think it was the homeowners, but that other group that the kid meets at the end since they said they were following them for awhile. I think the father was just worried about running into someone else without any sort of defense. Most of the movie was him trying to shield his son from the horrors of the world as it is. I didn't read the book, but I had to look up the part that everyone was talking about. Good thing they didn't put it in the movie since it was dreary enough. I just wish they explained what caused the disaster. The TV show Jericho is how I think (or at least hope) people would react to a SHTF scenario. Eventually starting communities and working together to survive and not just a free for all battle royale, but the more I see people today it is harder to see that happening.

And your the first one [ besides me ] that asked that OBVIOUS question.

Guess if the writer NEEDS to kill off the cast ---- here's your sign.

I turned it off shortly after that. I get that he was paranoid, but that was utterly stupid
