WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Dora man has shattered the state record for largest striped bass by reeling in a monster of a fish.
James Bramlett caught the 70 pound, 47 inch long bass while fishing on the Warrior River by the Gorgas Steam Plant on Thursday.

The old state record was 55 pounds, so Bramlett's fish outweighs its predecessor by a whopping 15 pounds. Bramlett is still waiting for find out what the world record is for largest striped bass.
We'll have more on his story at tonight at Fox 6 News at 6 p.m.

A guy in Connecticut caught one in 2011 (if memory serves correctly) that was 81 or 82 lbs. I believe the guy in Ct. caught his in Long Island Sound however. I don't remember all the details.

I believe the record is held by a Ga. man who caught a 75 Lb. stripe bass in Lake Lanier, Ga. near the Beuford Damn.

"The catch may become the new IGFA world record for a landlocked stripe bass. That record currently stands at 67 pounds, 8 ounces. That record has stood since May, 1992."


'landlocked' record; I guess inland/fresh water =/= ocean/bay
