Well, Staph has hit our local little bitty 15000 person county. 8 Staph cases at our High School, listed only as Staph now, but some of those cases may be MRSA, since complete bloodwork isn't back yet.
I'll be wearing my Latex when I go into town.
That and a report that they arrested a Mexican that has crossed the border 75+ times and deported who has that drug resistant TB. With our open borders a lot of illnesses that was wiped out or under control is resurging and mutating. Black Death II
A buddy that I work with came down with a Staph A infection (flesh eating disease) in his calf a few weeks ago. It took a quarter sized chunk a 1/4" deep out of his flesh. It progressed from a pimple to an inch across in 2 days. When he went to the hospital they said it was a good thing he came in and put him on an antibiotic drip for 4 days and pills for a week. He's fine now, but still has a gruesome black scab.
We had MRSA run through our crew about two years ago. One guy got a huge lump {About the size of 1/2 a baseball} on his elbow. They had to drain it twice and pump him full of drugs.
The stuff that drained out of that thing was enough to make this plumber green!
I had surgery in May @ a pretty prominent hospital in the KC area... a month later, I had a sore near one of my wounds... didn't think much about it... went back for a followup w/ the surgeon... he said it was a yeast infection from the drainage tube... it cleared up with alcohol & cleanings. A month later, I got a similar one on my face-- again.. I was thinking it was a yeast infection... cleared up by cleaning it the same way. A month after that, I had a sore on my cheek--thinking it was a pimple I popped it. It swelled a little that day. The next morning I woke up & the whole side of my face was swollen & my eye was almost shut -- hurt like the ****ens -- I am fortunate that my Dr was available to see me right away. At first he wasn't overly concerned about it, but after I told him I had the two other similar sores previously, he took a swab sample & said he was sure hoping it wasn't MRSA... the lab came back as MRSA & I was on antibiotics for a month. I am still having a few issues with feeling OK-- I read where the 17 yr old kid just died from it invading his lungs & kidneys -- when Drs don't recognize the type of infection, it can be a scary thing... I will be going back to my Dr to get another lab done to be sure it is out of my system... How long does it last? I know you can be a carrier without getting sores & can pass it to others... It is also communicable to animals... There were only six states admitting that they have records of MRSA -- neither Missouri nor Kansas was listed, yet I know there are at least three other cases than mine in the KC area...
the lab where we send our micro specimens have been reporting MRSA for about 3 years now. It used to be considered a life threating value and would immediately be called to the physician. now they don't even want to be called because of all the cases.
what is the main cause for the outbreaks? I mean besides immunity systems being compromised? Are we antibacterializing our worlds too much with wipes & cleaners? Too many unnatural ingredients in our foods? One day we will all have to be in bubbles to go outside... that is if we last long enough...
The Doctors on the TV are all downplaying the risk "we see it everyday" and "I wouldn't worry about it" are two quotes on the teaser for the 11pm newscast. Um, sorry, FLESH EATING BACTERIA is, IMHO Something to WORRY about. It's killed a healthy, athletic kid for crying out loud. UGH!
An uncle of mine in PA scratched his leg while cleaning the bathroom last week. His leg became infected with MRSA, and he nearly lost it. The doctor told him, had he waited another 2 days, he'd be dead.
They still don't know if he'll keep his leg, but they're doing the drain tube and antibiotic cocktail thing.
Seriously though, it was probably us, Britain, or Russia or something like that
