Haven't got a clue. Just that they were issued loaded and once used at the range, or down range, they were used for training.

I thought that Corporal was gonna have an aneurism.

I'm honestly ambivalent. I just couldn't find anything but a Stoner system equipped gun that fit my criteria, so it is what it is.

No, that's not my rifle and not my forum.

The owner did quite a bit of research to configure the rifle as it would have been set-up back then, and I believe he used one of those receivers with a GI heel welded to a new receiver. Not a receiver that I would choose for a shooter, but I guess it's okay for a wall hanger tribute build.

Youd also think that since they are making them in the millions (and did), they could get the price down too. M1A mags are about three times what AR and AK mags go for. G3 and FAL mags were even cheaper.

Mag fed guns are pretty reliant on having working mags, so it is a pretty big deal.
That's because the M14 modernization program didn't receive anything close to funding until 2010/2011.
If you are a diligent shopper, new C.M.I. 20 round mags can be found for around $20 ea.
My favorite mags are stainless CMI mags with Teflon followers.

Today they are all pretty good. I think the SCAR 17 is a bit over hyped. But it is a excellent gun. But in a SHTF situation I would probably grab a AR in 5.56.
