where have you found is the best place to buy wheat berries? We do not have a Morman pantry close enough to make the drive. Please give me some ideas of best places to try
You might also check with your local big-chain store. My daughter just ordered 100 pounds of wheat through Sherm's here in Oregon. It was under fifty dollars ($48) if I remember right.
Try a local Health Food store and see if they will order them for you.
Where we live, there are a lot of Amish and they have their own grocery store (non Amish can also shop there) We just bought a 50 lb bag of hard red wheat from them for $26.
You can often get it locally at restaurant or bakery suppliers. In fact, often you can get a bakery to order it for you. Local health food stores can also order it by the bag, but the prices aren't the best. Some folks have had luck finding it at their local Walmarts, but mine don't have it. I haven't asked a manager to see if they could order it, but I bet they could.
I buy wheat berries (and whole oat groats) from my local natural foods store. They sell both hard and soft wheat which is handy if you grind your own flour.
The farmer is selling at market for $2.80 per bushel. A bushel is 60 pounds and you pay near $30.00 plus shipping?? Wow! I know a lot of farmers, myself included that will let you pick it up for 1/2 that maybe put it in new sealed buckets and ship UPS.
Sam's online. Free shipping - check their site for current prices.
