I must have assumed, I thought the core of the subplot was "new bad, old good". My apologies, though I did check on Mitchell quick and neither the air pump or oxygen sensors on that citation should have had the capability of disabling your vehicle. I'd almost guarantee something else went funky, but in the end it's just a subplot of the subplot.

The thread is definitely adrift.

I already have the land with cattle, horses and outbuildings. My partner has his house built but I don't have mine so I would be putting my cabin in, including a large propane tank and generator, propane/wood stove, septic and 3000 gallon cistern. So far this is estimated to cost me approximately $32,000. With the excess I would try to drill a well (haven't done so so far because it's so expensive and we have no guarantees of water in our area) and then finish stockpiling food and ammo. I think that's approximate for $100,000.

Buy ten different dividend paying utilities. Use the income to prep. If nothing happens, and odds are it will not, you have an income and your $100K.

Well, I've got most everything I need. But I'd probably take about half of it and pay a friendly visit to Gabe's store. Just cause he's a nice guy, ya know...

Are you serious? I thought you were talking about one of Chevy's new crap vehicles that I haven't even heard of yet. I just assumed you were talking about a modern vehicle, not something over 30 years old. I didn't even give it a second thought. Not only did a 1982 Citation not have OBDII, it didn't even have fuel injection, it was carbureted! We are talking ZERO computer control. That vehicle didn't even have an O2 sensor that could test smog levels, let alone turn off the vehicle.

Am I crazy, or did you not say you are an electrical engineer?

Agreed. C'mon folks, lets get back on topic. There are already plenty of threads about EMP proof BOVs.

Your idea may be the best yet. I am on rural water that would go off in WORL. I live a few hundred yards from the closest water of a large lake but water quality could be in question and getting water from any publicly accessible place will be very dangerous.

Thankfully our closest water source would be a river of decent quality and we have large 3000 gallon cisterns on site. I have prepared with enough water purification stuff to get through 60,000 gallons. Since drilling a well is unlikely (I don't really have $25,000) we can haul water from the river (no farm land/chemical run off above us) with horses and a wagon and we will likely treat with pool shock to make it safe. 1lb of pool shock can treat 11,000 gallons of water if you read the instructions on various survival sites.
