Hoping some of you old timers know what I am talking about here...
Growing up, my grandmother had something she called "black salve". It was store bought and came in a small tin. It was used to draw infections out of closed wounds--it was used to bring boils to a head, and to rid infected sores which had closed. It worked overnight pretty much---smear some on, cover with a bandaid, and in the morning the redness of an infection would be gone, and a boil would have come to a head and burst...
This stuff was black--like tar--but was a thick salve. I've looked for it in drug stores and natural food stores and never really found the stuff I remember. I don't know the name it went under in the 1960's...
Anyone here know what I am talking about, and know where it sold today and under what brand name?
First Step:
Put Bees wax, cocoa butter and shea butter in a small pot and heat. You want to keep it at 180 Circulon 3 Quart Covered Saucepan degree for at least 15 minutes. This is easier than it sounds. Just heat it on medium high until it is melted. Turn off the burner and let it sit. It should still be over 180 in 15 minutes.
Second Step:
Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until well blended. The easy place to buy Activated Charcoal is in your local health food store or herbal medicine store. You'll probably have to open a lot of capsules, but it is the stuff you need for this.
Third Step:
Feel free to add any relevant herbal extracts to the formula just before you spoon it in. You want to make sure it is very cooled off before adding any extracts, essential oils, or fragrance.
Fourth Step:
Once it is smooth, spoon into 1/2 ounce jars. Give a jar to everyone you know. They will thank you for it!
i use goldline drawing salve. you can get it at drugstores you must ask for it they sell it behind the counter.warning this stuff does have an odor to it
The one ingredient that seems to be missing is Sulphur. I've tried lots of different salves and none work like the old stuff. I have tried a couple recipes none seem to come out like tar. The original draw out salve was called thrifty/payless "Draw out Salve", then the name changed to Rite-aid draw out salve. It looked and kinda smelled like black tar, but worked great, I had a small hard wart like bump on my leg that would bleed profusely. Dr. said it would have to be burnt off but would possibly come back, had the procedure and it came back. Then put draw out salve on twice a day for a week it was gone and never came back! They always seem to discontinue products that work. I would love to find some more, if anyone has the recipe with Sulphur and turns out like tar, please post it.
Thanks Balinore
