We were recently at Costco and saw Johnny's Cheddar Potato Soup Mix. (In a box not a tub like displayed)
It has 6 pouches inside, 4 servings per pouch.
This will be a pretty accurate review for SHTF life or Camping as we are currently living out of our suitcases and have limited supplies.
We did 1 pouch to 4 guesstimated cups of water. After the water was brought to a boil we added the mix. It says to whisk it but all I had was a fork. So I stirred vigorously with a fork until I felt it was stirred enough. Turned the heat down and let it simmer, stirring occasionally for 15 minutes or so.
The soup came out beautiful. It was thick and creamy with a rich cheddar potato flavour. It required no additional spices (although more could be added if desired). It had chunks of potato in it, that while initially made me hesitant, turned out to be wonderful re-hydrated pieces of perfectly cooked potato that while solid, gave under my teeth like a properly steamed/boiled potato should.
The honest truth is that while it is very high in sodium and the portion sizes are probably 2 per pouch (more like 12 portions over all), It is a VERY tasty soup and definitely better than at least 75% of in restaurant soups ive had. It is also a great source of Vitamin A, with each small portion being 25% of your daily need. It has a shelf life of 2-3 years but with proper packaging I could see it going beyond that.
