Cons: Proximity to Des Moines; proximity to prisons (Newton, Mitchelville, I think one in Marshalltown?); tendency towards flooding (Des Moines and Cedar Rivers); close to I-80, thus hordes migrating on foot
Pros: Much lower population density than a lot of parts of the US; weather not too bad, aside from a few really cold weeks every year; close to agricultural production; plenty of water; decent hunting |

Nashville Area: Cons -Proximity to Ft Campbell (60m NW), Air Guard Base downtown, Arnold AFB (60m SE) -Multiple TVA dams, some of which are in danger of failing -Lots of entertainment industry transplants, it's like a mini-L.A./NYC in some parts of town...lots of liberal mindsets -Not ideal for those with mold/pollen allergies -High sales tax -Rocky ground/lack of soil in most areas (on the other hand, there's a lot of pot grown in the area, so it will obviously support subsistence farming) -Tornados -Occasional ice storms Pros -Heading in any direction will get you into a relatively remote area quickly -Relatively mild winters -Long growing season -Plentiful game -Plentiful water sources -Most of the population fairly conservative -No state income tax (yet) |

Your right, I have lived in this part of Wyoming for 20 years on and off, and never been too near to anything. However I got a really good deal on my car because the previous owner was in the storm that spawned the most recorded tornado to date. They are always just around the corner. Its like the threat of nuclear attack, just because we havn't experienced it doesn't mean we won't. Thanks for your response.

IIRC, the CIA has some type of headquarters here in town which could conceivably make us a target. Plus the fact that an upper-atmosphere nuclear detonation would likely be pretty much straight above Kansas. Maybe the Kansas winds will blow the fallout away. ![]() Too many people to feed with 1800s technology in the case of an EMP attack. Pretty much any large city would be a bad place to hang out when the SHTF. |

Fort Collins, CO. Great city to live in now, but major problems:
only a few main traffic arteries in or out, serious traffic jams during rush hour every day, insanely stupid drivers who should never have been issued a license. Incredible influx of Californians, currently (can't say I blame them). SHTF this place would be total gridlock/death. |

Stay away from Canon City , Colorado.Absolutely the last place you should go.We're surrouded by BLM and national forests, military and SAC,and too small to notice anybody that didn't belong ,like bombers or terrorists. With our overly compensated LE presence and retired military we would be the last place you should come. But if you're determined,PM me and I will try to dissuade you.

About as bad as you can get here.
Honolulu, Hawaii.... - dry and hot for the most part, humid but most areas are too dry to support much - volcanic soil is very fertile, but water is the issue - good water locally but totally dependent upon govt to get it to us - 90% of food is NOT locally grown...we are dependent on oil for shipping food in - we are isolated, which could be good, could be very bad - major, and I mean MAJOR, military target - lots of soldiers ready to let loose if SHTF - bad spot for a tsunami to hit - we get hurricanes too, occasionally - high cost of living, high cost of real estate, plenty of people struggling and living on the edge already Some parts of the islands would be pretty good for survival, but definitely not the urban settings. The crime rate is through the roof and the police are in denial. |

I don't think the biggest concern should be about nuclear attacks or terrorism for that matter...its a p$lice st$te. A "type of new world order we can all believe in"...as someone has said. Its happening. the american people have about 50 nooses around their necks, and the constitution is up in flames. So i'm thinking about my state of MN. I live in the middle somewhere about....pretty brutal winters...but tons of firewood. Good soil if your on highground...and more lakes than you can imagine...tons of deer and other wildlife...but also t wolves, cougars, coyotes on the rise....i think its decent. 20 miles of wilderness and swamps out the backdoor. i'm not trapped in a town or anything...A city though...they'l be the first to lock down. Get out!!
